Zote, known by his moniker "The Mighty", is a minor antagonist in Hollow Knight. He is a traveler from outiside of the Hollownest who came to the kingdom to fulfill a promise, which a self-made promise for himself. If Zote was saved and bested in Colosseum of Fools, he would later shows up to be Bretta's love interest, making her replacing the knight's drawing and doll by the painting of Zote. Zote's Boss form, Grey Prince Zote is available in Hidden Dreams DLC as an optional boss by dream nailing the statue of Zote in Bretta's house.
He is voiced by William Pellen.
What Makes Him a Base Breaking Character?[]
What Do People Like About Him?[]
- Many consider him a hilarious character that provides comedy through the game acting like a karmic butt-monkey, especially as a break from the dark and somber tone of the game. He's one of the most memed characters in the Hollow Knight community for a reason.
- He has a pretty great boss fight, Grey Prince Zote, who actually parodizes him in Bretta's dream. When defeated, this results in Bretta undergoing character development to find her new lover.
- You can choose not to help him. After you leave the room and smack his mask, you'll get an achievement.
What Do People Hate About Him Him?[]
- He constantly displays arrogance and foolishness. Even when the Knight saves him twice, Zote will act as an ungrateful jerk regardless. Something that a few fans consider a bit too annoying.
- If you defeat him in The Colosseum of Fools, Bretta will grow an affection to him, ignoring completely the Knight. This lead to the players of accusing Zote of stealing Bretta.
- He might have an abusive father, although it's unclear that he is an unreliable narrator. Some consider this a case of wasted potential for some character development.
