The Intelligence Dampening Sphere, better known as Wheatley, is the secondary antagonist of Valve Corporation's Portal series.
He was created to be the dumbest robot ever, and was put inside of GLaDOS to make her dumb aswell, he allies with Chell to try and defeat GLaDOS, however is corrupted by her mainframe, and becomes Chell's second archenemy.
He was voiced by Stephen Merchant.
What Makes Him a Base Breaking Character?[]
What Do People Like About Him?[]
- Stephen Merchant does an amazing performance as him.
- Throughout the first half of the game, he generally helps Chell, and while being programmed to be a moron, he generally does a very good job at helping.
- He has loads of comedic moments throughout the game, many coming from his dimwitted and stupid nature.
- He is generally affable towards Chell and GLaDOS despite trying to kill them.
- Many people believe he is tragic due to being corrupted by GLaDOS' mainframe, which is why he became a villain, though this isn't confirmed it's heavily implied.
- He feels remorse for his crimes at the end of the day, and wishes to apologize to Chell for everything he did to her.
What Do People Hate About Him?[]
- Some people seem to find him very annoying, due to him basically just being a chatter-box throughout the whole game, and being an idiot.
Trivia[]
- Originally, Wheatley was meant to be killed off very early on (likely due to him being crushed in the first chapter), however testers loved him so much that the devs decided to keep him, it's unknown how this would affect his status if this was kept, however he likely would've remained the same.
