Totally not suspicious wedding...
I see Daenerys found her way on this wiki because of Season 8 of GoT (and I'm guessing characters like Tyrion, Jon, Arya, etc will follow) so how about a character who was already controversial even during the show's gold age?
What is Game of Thrones?[]
I think most of you know this show, but those who don't, Game of Thrones is a HBO show and the adaptation the novels A Song of Ice and Fire written by George R.R Martin. It shows the internal struggles and deceptions within the Seven Kingdoms as everyone attempt to seize the infamous Iron Throne and rule.
Who's Robb?[]
Robb Stark is the eldest son of Eddard and Catelyn Stark. After his father is executed under false charges of treason, Robb goes to war against the Lannisters, becoming "King in The North", as The North claims to have its own independency. The Starks seem to be winning, until everything went when Robb betrayed his deal with House Frey to marry one of their daughters by marrying another girl named Talisa (Jayne Westerling in the books, but I'm mainly proposing Robb from the show). When he's forced to ask the Freys for help again, his uncle is married to one of Lord Walder's daughters... until everyone (yes, everyone, Robb, his mom, his wife, his wolf, his unborn child, his soldiers, his whole army) is brutally slaughtered by the Freys, becoming the infamous event known as the "Red Wedding", which was orchestrated by Tywin Lannister to kill the Starks. Later in the show, Robb's legacy would be avenged when his half-brother Jon Snow would become King in The North, while his sister Arya murders the Freys.
What Do People Like About Him?[]
- His cause is noble: he vows to avenge his father's death by killing the treacherous Lannisters and give the North its own independecy, as well as rescue his sisters Sansa and Arya from their claws. Tons of fans immediately sided with him because of that.
- He's a clever tactician, managing to fool a dangerous man like Tywin Lannister by pretending to send 10,000 men against him only to send actually very few men and mobilizing the whole rest to capture Jaime at the Whispering Wood, that being his first victory. He also technically wins every battle against the Lannisters, having lost only because of politic decisions.
- He's also a brave fighter, being always present on the battlefield to fight alongside his men. He has a lot of badass moments like him intimidating Jaime (a notorious knight who's much older than him), him putting the Greatjon back to his place by threatening to have him hung for "oathbreaker" if he didn't do his duty, or him sending back a Lannister scout to tell Tywin he's going to find out if he "truly does shit gold".
- His actor Richard Madden gets a lot of praise for his acting.
- A lot loved his relationship with Talisa, and were completely devastated when the two were murdered at the Red Wedding. Their deaths as well as Catelyn's were the reason the Red Wedding is one of the most tragic and visceral moments in the show. Many also cheered for Arya when she finally killed the Freys in Season 6.
- He goes down as one of the many reasons Game of Thrones became such a popular and loved show, with his death being probably one of the most shocking and unexpected moments in television history.
What Do People Dislike About Him?[]
- He makes many terrible decisions that would lead to the Red Wedding:
- He broke his pact with the Freys by marrying Talisa simply after falling in love with her. In the books, he marries Jayne Westerling out of honor because he'd gotten her pregnant, while in the show he deliberately marries Talisa. This makes him come off as careless.
- He beheads Rickard Karstark for murdering Martyn and Wilhem Lannister, which causes House Karstark to defect and Robb to lose half his army, causing him to seek the Freys for help again. He was warned many times by his mother and the Blackfish to not execute Rickard, but went against their warnings anyway. He ironically makes the same mistake than when Joffrey executed Ned Stark.
- He also brings his wife to his uncle's wedding at the Twins, despite the fact the Freys will clearly despise her, and it causes her death during the massacre, her and her baby being the first two casualties. In the books however, he doesn't bring Jayne with him to not anger the Freys, which makes her survive.
- Because of that, Robb is indirectly responsible for the deaths of his family and thousands of men at the Red Wedding, a lot of his detractors blaming him for it since it was his decisions that led it to happen.
- He's shown smirking when Edmure misses his arrow shots during Hoster Tully's funeral, no matter how embarrassing it was. He also scolds Edmure for losing his men to take a mill and refusing to go after The Mountain instead. This makes him come off as arrogant.
Final Verdict[]
A firm yes to Robb Stark... The King in The North!
