Yeah my first Base-Breaking Character and it's an breaking one-shot throwaway character Red Shirt Love interest I seen gather some heat about here.
I will Warn you it may be into 15+ topic and no there is not any rule breaking gonna tone it done as possible due to a bit of sexual nature here.
What's the Work?
Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead is an Manga series that show Akira Tendou wanting to 100 things on a Bucket List with his friends before they all die or be infected into Zombies.
Who is she?
Saori Ohtori is an neutral character that appears in the first Chapter/Episode and the first love interest of Akira Tendou in his his terrible Black Company job.
What People Think of her?
Context
Let me explain first before going into why people like & hate her first, let me explain full story She is the first love interest of Akira who had an crush on for some years and wanted to tell her how he felt but then an Chairman (An Hate Sink) steal her and zombie apocalypse eventually got both infected with implying it was the Chairman who infected her.
Despite the fact she is likely meant to an kind girl being the plaything of some corrupt Chairman an Hate Sink and her had sex/prostitution and the details are too vague to the point where people haz to rely on so much fridge-logic from the cues and which got some conflicting answers on those who defend her said she was forced to do it because she was threatened or bribed to do it and couldn't say no to it while those whole bash her did it willingly out of sheer lust and/or greed just for pleasure and money based on clues.
Despite being an minor character she does has enough impact to cause a bit of enough friction in the community to qualify due to the reasons below.
Why they like her?
Some fans seem to like her despite being an Red Shirt Neutral Love Interest Mainly because she was the first love interest of the main character and how too soon she go such as:
- Some felt bad for her as they thought the Chairman was forcing her in some way like against her will by threatening to fire her or bribe to to do it.
- This makes her sympathetic to some people feeling her she didn't deserve to be zombified and wish she had an better ending while despising and hating the Chairman (For his purpose as an Hate Sink) for robbing her returning Akira's feelings like as if the Chairman is an Hate Sink pervert version of Paul Rabin.
- Some find her design attractive.
- They saw her an complete angel compared to Gōnzou Kosugi (An Hate Sink) who abuses and bullies Akira to overwork wishing he was zombified and she was saved due to her always being nice to Akira.
- Some wondered if she truly liked Akira back or not.
Why they hate her?
Despite likely the Chairman suppose to be clearly an Hate Sink for "stealing" her from Akira some bashed on her for the following reasons:
- Some people victim blame her think she did it out of sheer lust or for selfish reasons on her own free will for pervertedness or to he payed here which suppose to "hurt" Akira's feelings.
- This made some call her the an sl*t and saws her being being turned into an zombie karma for her "being an sl-t and hurting 'Akira' despite it being an weak argument since it would've been unintentional.
- For some reason I seen some comments say she is equally deserves for what she supposedly did like how Gōnzou Kosugi should've gotten more than left behind.
- Some saw Shizuka an improvement over her as an love interest even if they don't hate her for said reasons above.
Why I’m having doubts on her Hate
For an one-time character I seem some friction as due to it being vague whether she willingly did it or was forced to. Her Live-Action Netflix seemly wasn't happy with the Chairman he was married and beaten him to death with Akira's help meaning it was forced for Netflix but what about the original Manga & Anime version? I mean arguments towards willingly did it because of her moans in the closet but I feel like most of her haters are just flat out victim blaming her here.
Only thing stopping her from being an Scrappy is she has some enough defenders (Like Me lol) that due to Japan having an different work culture than America as workers had fewer rights there or in-universe of the series too and was said in-universe there are much worse companies so quitting likely isn't an options.
I seen her smiling face frown when the Chairman arrived when they do their thing so kinds dumbfounded they not seen it as an clue she might not be willingly here?
Though without further context people have to rely on Fridge-Logic to guess if she did it willingly or forced is kinds why the fanbase arguing over if she did it on her own out of selfish gains to be played more or was forced and bribe to do it which lead to so many theories and such.
Verdict
I ssy yes as her whole ordeal with Chairman (who meant to be an Hate Sink) but due to vague details and context has to make people have to rely on Fridge-Logic to guess which made those who defend her sympathize for her being an victim to the Chairman who robbed her from him and some seeing she doesn't deserve to be zombified thinking she deserve better while her bashers did she did it out of sheer pleasure and/or to he payed here which made some hate her for "hurting Akira" and seeing her being turned into an Zombie "Karma" for her supposedly being an sl-t who hurt Akira's feelings. And while she is an minor character her actions cause enough of a friction to be base-breaking here.
