Tiki Tong is the main antagonist of Donkey Kong Country Returns. He is the leader of the Tiki Tak Tribe.

What Makes Him a Base Breaking Character?[]

What Do They Like About Him?[]

  • As far as Donkey Kong final bosses go, Tiki Tong's design is at least original enough to make Tiki Tong stand out more as a character in the context of the franchise.
  • Unlike the rest of the Tiki Tak Tribe, who are all figuratively and literally wooden and mostly devoid of personality, Tiki Tong has a bit more depth to him than his minions do, as his boss battle showcases his craftiness by faking the player out and laughing about it. Also, Tiki Tong actually fights Donkey Kong himself rather than brainwashing innocent creatures to do the fighting for him. This makes more emphasis and focus placed on Tiki Tong during his boss battle, in contrast to the elite Tikis, who are overshadowed by the animals they were controlling.

What Do They Hate About Him?[]

  • Conversely, Tiki Tong's design is, at its core, "just a head with hands", a design choice used in various Nintendo games before and after Donkey Kong Country Returns came out, making it unoriginal in the grand scheme of things.
  • When the fanbase discovered that Tiki Tong was the final boss Returns and not King K. Rool, most of the fanbase began treating Tiki Tong and the Tiki Tak Tribe as scrappies. While some of the fanbase began to warm up to Tiki Tong, the other half viewed him with animosity. With Tiki Tong and the Tiki Tak Tribe being so heavily pushed by Nintendo over the more recognizable and beloved Kremling Krew, this divide has only gotten worse, especially with the revelation that Tiki Tong would be appearing in the Donkey Kong Country section of Super Nintendo World while King K. Rool and the Kremlings were nowhere to be found.
