Striker is the secondary antagonist of the adult animated black comedy web series Helluva Boss. He is the most skilled and infamous assassin in the Wrath Ring, holding supremacist views and despising Hell's royalty and those who ally with them.

What Makes Him a Base Breaking Character?[]

What Do People Like About Him?[]

  • He's the first real threat to the main protagonists, as his debut appearance sees him attempt to kill Stolas with a piece of angelic weaponry, the only known artifact capable of hurting him. This caused him to make a huge impression on viewers from his debut alone.
  • His first appearance cemented him as a very interesting foe for Blitzo, being another assassin but with a hatred for royalty, while Blitzo himself is currently allied with one. The fact that he tries to manipulate Blitzo into sharing his viewpoints on the upper-class of Hell further solidified him as an interesting opponent to challenge Blitzo and his own worldview.
  • His voice acting provided by Norman Reedus is slick, sly, and perfectly sells him as a cunning killer-for-hire. His voicework provided by Edward Bosco has also been met with praise for it's grittiness and rough, aggressive energy.
  • His ideology of Hell's royalty treating demons of lower class (especially imps) with little to no respect has made him stand out as a particularly complex and sympathetic villain. And it's not too far off from how the royal demons in the series actually act, given how Stolas abused his power as a prince to keep Blitzo in a sex for services relationship with him if he wished to be able to carry out missions for his company and Mammon exploited Fizzarolli for money for a decade. It arguably makes him more righteous than the protagonists at times.
  • Defenders of his character even in the face of the second season tend to point out that he's by far the only character to acknowledge the sexual eccentricities of the other characters around him, which are admittedly pretty off-the-wall even for such a raunchy show.
  • Those who continue to enjoy Striker's character during the second season tend to point out that him stumbling over his words during the trial in "Mastermind" could be attributed to him having more important things on his mind, such as taking his horse, Bombproof, to the vet.
  • There are fans that are looking forward to seeing him appear again thanks to the hints dropped about him potentially having a tragic backstory of sorts at the hands of royal demons in "Western Energy".

What Do People Hate About Him?[]

  • Many fans hated how Season 2 portrayed him, turning him from a smooth-talking, collected, intelligent assassin to a hot-headed, egotistical brute with little to no self-control and charisma.
    • "Western Energy" and "Oops" respectively see him getting irrationally angry at Moxxie and Fizzarolli for making sexual comments in front of him that allowed for him to be easily defeated by Millie throwing his own statue on top of him in the former episode and Blitzo shooting a tanker behind him in the latter, things he otherwise would've easily been able to avoid if he hadn't gotten so unnaturally riled up.
      • Speaking of which, he also got inexplicably angry with a group of mariachi imps that were singing about how great he was while he brought Stolas to his lair, which is not only uncalled for but also hypocritical since Striker is a narcissist who already loves to sing about how great he himself is, but suddenly has a problem with other people doing it.
    • On the subject of his incompetence, he and Crimson became so distracted by Fizzarolli's improv performance that they didn't notice that Blitzo was sneaking around them to create a hole in the wall so he and Fizz could escape until the very end of the song.
    • He also became much more perverted to the point of installing a statue of himself in his lair that featured a gigantic penis, which was largely found to be more disgusting and juvenile than funny.
      • It also contradicts the reasons why he supposedly blew up at Moxxie and Fizzarolli (that he was offput by their absurd sexual behavior) by showing him to be just as, if not more, perverted than either of them.
    • In "Mastermind", despite having written the name of the Grimoire on his hand, he was incapable of pronouncing it aloud while testifying on Andrealphus' behalf.
    • "Western Energy" and "Oops" also have him contradict his hatred for royal demons by willingly joining forced with Stella and Andrealphus. While the former of which has his hypocrisy be lampshaded by characters in universe, it only serves to reinforce his image as a hypocrite and as someone who is willing has little to no principles when it comes to achieving his goals. Which is not at all who he was before, as season 1 set him up as someone who wasn't willing to suck up his pride and work with the same people who he despised unless the chips were down, which was clearly not the case in either of the aforementioned episodes.

Trivia[]

  • Season 2's characterization of Striker is largely responsible for his status in Base Breaking Territory.
