“ | "True... We were weak. But that weakness was not the sort of which you speak. The weakness that prevented us from seeing our allies as such. We've had enough of a weak guild like that ." | „ |
Sting Eucliffe is a supporting protagonist in the anime/manga Fairy Tail. He is the current guild master of Sabertooth after defeating his former master Jiemma after losing Lector. What Makes Him a Base Breaking Character?[]
What Do People Like About Him?[]
- Sting originally starts off as a Scrappy because of his cocky and jerkish attitude but after the Grand Magic Games, he gets character development and becomes a kind and loyal person who values friendship and willing to protect his allies in battle. His popularity began to increase after the Grand Magic Games.
- He becomes the guild master for the Sabertooth guild and treats the members like family unlike Jiemma.
- Many fans love his relationship with his Exceed Companion Lector, as he was willing to keep his promise in defeating Natsu.
- His reunion with Lector was very heartwarming to fans.
- After Jiemma "killed" Lector, he attacked his abusive master, he later became more humble which increased his popularity.
- He had one of the most favorable fights throughout the Alvarez arc against Larcade.
- While many were disappointed by his surrender in the final day of the Grand Magic Games, fans like him surrendering, thinking he had an important reason of surrendering. Even if he did beat the weakened Fairy Tail mages, he couldn't face Lector ever again, it shows his development as a character.
- Even if he did have wasted potential of a Third Generation Dragon Slayer, he is still considered to be one of the strongest characters and find his character to be cool. He is able to use Dragon Force much easier than the First Generation Dragon Slayers that need to consume external sources of magic. This shows more of when he eats Rogue's shadow and uses White Shadow Dragon Mode and is manageable to defeat Larcade.
What Do People Hate About Him?[]
- He comes off as a big disappointment to the point that he is considered a memetic loser since he was introduced as a Third Generation Dragon Slayer who is able to slay Dragons but he ended up having too many failures in the series.
- He and Rogue fight Natsu 2 vs. 1 in the Grand Magic Games and ended up losing terribly despite using his full power by using Dragon Force. Natsu didn't even use all of his power and still ended up beating the both of them.
- His fight with Mard Geer was basically just Mard Geer toying him and Rogue and mocking them, as well as deflecting most of their attacks throughout the fight.
- His surrender in the final day at the Grand Magic Games drew so much disappointment to many fans as they were hyped about the battle, thinking Sting would take advantage of beating the weak Fairy Tail members and what makes this more embarrassing is that he thought he was a badass after learning the value of friendship. His detractors say that their was no foreshadowing of his surrender since the whole time he sat alone thinking about his plan.
- The only time he won a single fight in the series was when he fought Larcade (with the help of Rogue and Kagura), but fans think he didn't deserve the win because of how much failures he had.
- Some fans think that Sting basically became a copy of Natsu after the Grand Magic Games.
- He even takes some of his catchphrases when fighting Larcade.
- He is also hypocritical by calling a mage from a dark guild scum for leaving his allies but he was angry about Natsu's reasoning of participating in the Grand Magic Games and called Yukino weak after she got excommunicated from the guild.
