Princess Stella of the Ars Goetia is the main antagonist of the adult-animated black comedy romantic drama web series Helluva Boss. She serves as the overarching antagonist of Season 1 and one of the two main antagonists (alongside Andrealphus) of Season 2.
She is a vindictive and wrathful woman who became furious with her husband Stolas after learning he cheated on her with an imp, and set out to assassinate him in revenge.
She is voiced by Georgina Leahy.
What Makes Her a Base Breaking Character?[]
What Do People Like About Her?[]
- While despicable, she's gathered quite the fanbase due to how much fun she seems to be having while doing all of her most wicked deeds, as it's just kind of fun to see.
- There's a lot of speculation on her past, and whether or not she has some sort of tragic backstory. Many fans like to imagine she's having just as hard a time as Stolas.
- Her design is rather nice and looks elegant. Many fans also think she is attractive, which is even backed up by in-universe characters calling her hot and several pieces of merchandise sexualizing her.
- Her voice acting is pretty well done, really making you buy her being an utterly despicable abuser.
What Do People Hate About Her?[]
- As a Hate Sink, she'd be struggling to win over all that many people anyways, combined with some odd writing choices giving her a struggle.
- She's often been accused of being a plot device to make Stolas seem sympathetic and decrease the moral complexity in his character, so it's easier to feel bad for him.
- Additionally, many view her character as being flat and one dimensional with nothing outside of making Stolas look good.
- Her only real personality trait is being an abuser and being wrathful. Compare this to Valentino, another Hate Sink, who's able to have way more personality as a psychopathic manchild.
- Speaking of Valentino, many people also compare her negatively to him, as he's able to both be entertaining and a genuinely terrifying threat, while Stella never truly seems all that threatening nor is she that entertaining.
- Some feel her character took a dramatic shift in Season 2 when we got more focus on her to make her more hateable. While many would argue she was always meant to be hated, these traits only became pronounced later on, causing people who felt sympathy for her in Season 1 to feel she was being derailed or outright retconned to make Stolas look better.
- Some have even accused her of existing only to justify the existance of the Stolitz ship, when it causes more harm then her and has even brought out the worst aspects in Stolas and Blitzø.
- For some, she's so ridiculous and unrealistic that she can't even be properly hated. This is shown in episodes like "Sinsmas", where her over-the-top mockery of Stolas is seen by detractors as so pathetic that she seems more like a Saturday morning cartoon villain.
- Despite the show constantly wanting to paint Stella in a completely unsympathetic light, some fans found her to be unintentionally sympathetic due to her also being forced into an arranged marriage with a man she doesn't love and having to bear a child. They find it absolutely disgusting the show does not sympathize with this aspect of her past and frames her as pure evil.
Trivia[]
- Vivienne Medrano stated that Stella's viewpoint and backstory will be explained in the future. If it is revealed, it may make her sufficiently more liked and may remove her hate sink status, as a lot of her problems come from a lack of complexity and how she doesn't seem to have a personality and goals beyond hurting Stolas.
