~ SpongeBob's catchphrase |
SpongeBob SquarePants is the titular protagonist of the 1999 Nickelodeon animated show with the same name.
He is a yellow sponge who lives in a pineapple under the sea and works at Bikini Bottom, he is a fry cook at The Krusty Krab, and is best friends with Patrick.
He is voiced by Tom Kenny.
What Makes Him a Base Breaking Character?[]
What Do People Like About Him?[]
- He is one of the most iconic cartoon characters (and to some extent, one of the most iconic fictional characters) in existence, and made (and currently is making) several people's childhoods better, with SpongeBob SquarePants (especially Seasons 1-3) being a nostalgic watch for several people, who enjoy the dynamic cast of technicolored fish humanoids doing wacky shenanigans.
- People were sad in 2018 after Stephen Hillenburg died, posting how much he helped make their childhoods deluge of positive sentimentalities.
- He is genuinely kind to other characters most of the time, even when they are outright villains or his enemies.
- His nurturing care for Gary, his pet snail, feeding him plenty of food and treating him like his best friend.
- The Season 4 episode titled Have You Seen This Snail? expands upon his care for the snail, as he was at first neglectful out of being distracted and focused on the Dirty Bubble challenge, requiring him to do 29,998,559,671,349 hits with the paddle ball, but after a week, he finally remembers to feed Gary, only for him to be gone. SpongeBob and Patrick go looking for Gary, putting up posters, and a montage song goes on called Gary's Song, until SpongeBob gives up and Gary coincidentally finds him while he was lamenting about his neglectfulness, thrilling SpongeBob in excitement.
- SpongeBob's whimsical shape shifting, turning into supercalifragilisticexpialidocious Euclidean geometric 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional entities as well as non-Euclidean 3-dimensional circles sometimes.
- When Stephen Hillenburg returned to the series in the latter half of Season 9, SpongeBob was saved from becoming a total scrappy as his characterization got almost entirely reset back to how it was during the pre-movie era of the show not long after Hillenburg's return.
What Do People Hate About Him?[]
- SpongeBob has always been annoying to people, but he was not Base-Breaking until after his flanderization, especially between seasons 6 through 9, as well as his Netlifx counterpart and several episodes before and after those seasons.
Trivia[]
- Because of the flanderization of SpongeBob SquarePants and other characters in Season 6-Season 9a, a whole wiki is dedicated to the terrible aspects and episodes of the show, that wiki being called ScumBob.
- All of the worst flanderizations listed are episodes the ScumBob Wiki considers the worst and universally hated, calling them "HYPER-infamous episodes".
- Fans who only like Seasons 1-3 and the first SpongeBob SquarePants movie are called "SpongeBoomers", who are always gonna view the post-movie SpongeBob negatively.
- He is the current icon of the wiki, replacing Ashfur.
- While his canon version is Base-Breaking, the version on the newer Netflix films recieved barely any defenders and is widely hated by the audience.
