Sonic the Hedgehog (Classic) is a titular main protagonist debuting in the 1991 video game Sonic the Hedgehog. He is a Genesis Era version of the Sonic the Hedgehog who fought Dr. Eggman to save the animals, foiling the doctor's plan. His first encounter in Sonic Generations served as Modern Sonic meeting his early-installment self. Sometime after he defeated Heavy King and Dr. Eggman, the Phantom Ruby transported him into Sunset Heights in Sonic Forces. He then defeats Chaos replica in one hop to save Tails. He returns to his own world to resume his adventure in Sonic Superstars.

What Do People Like About Him?

• Classic Sonic is much more adored for being cute version of the Modern Sonic.
• He is the mascot of SEGA, since Genesis handheld period.
• Fanbase would enjoy the nostalgia of the Classic Sonic gameplays after Sonic Mania and Sonic Superstars, who were given his 3D model in 2D gameplay.
• Audience loves their dynamics with Team Sonic members and other friends whoever originated in classic and modern era.
  • Fanbase cheered when Modern Sonic and Classic Sonic met again in Sonic Forces.

What Do People Hate About Him?

• A lot of fans disliked the retcon of Classic Sonic hails from another dimension instead of the past timeline / world just like Dr. Eggman Nega being the Dr. Eggman's descendant rather than his eviler counterpart.
  • However, Classic Sonic case of retcon is a major effect of translation issues since the Japanese word for "world" (世界, Sekai) has different meanings, such as Time Periods, Society, Dimension, and World. It has been used by the franchise to "a world in different time periods". The intention of Classic Sonic is hailing from Past World but was lost in translation during localization. As a result, the English localization misinterpret him hailing from "another dimension" instead, resulting in the infamous retcon.
• Since Generations panders the fanbase, Classic Sonic was viewed as an everything wrong with the Modern Era for bringing new work, recycled graphics and levels, also with retro themes. Nowadays, he would be seen as a spotlight stealer by the fanbase, but some would miss the nostalgic levels such as Green Hill Zone.
• While he has a major role in Sonic Mania, his inclusion in Sonic Forces is basically wasted because he went into the modern world to destroy the Phantom Ruby. Audience was disappointed when he doesn't get a chance to face-to-face with Infinite, nor he got to witness Infinite's display of illusory power aside summoning the sun to the resistance.
