Sonia Nevermind also known as The Ultimate Princess is a supporting character in Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair. She is one of the sixteen participants in the Killing School Trip, as well as one of the surviving members.
She is voiced by Miho Arakawa in the Japanese version of the anime and the game, and by Natalie Hoover in the English version of the anime and the game.
What Makes Her a Base Breaking Character?[]
What Do People Like About Her?[]
- Defenders enjoy her very eccentric and charming personality within the game, as Sonia is often portrayed in a rather cheerful light.
- Apperciate the excellent voice acting work for Sonia that is provided by Miho Arakawa for the Japanese version, and Natalie Hoover for the English version, respectively.
- Fans often ship her with Gundham due to some subtle hints of the two having feelings for each other.
- Enjoy the levity and comedic value she brings to the game such as her obsession with serial killers, culture shock moments, and talking about rather dark things with a lot of excitement.
- Some look at her with sympathy as she is often a victim of Kazuichi's stalker-like obsession with her and see her jerkish moments towards Kazuichi more as heating-up periods, with fans thinking that she isn't too far out of line to resent him.
- Appreciate her Free Time Events which provide what some would argue is some delightful world-building outside of Japan.
What Do People Hate About Her?[]
- Detractors have argued that she is a rather flat character with little to no arc in comparison to some of the other characters and her personality never changes that much throughout the game.
- On top of this some may also argue that she doesn't contribute enough to the plot as much as other characters like Chiaki or Nagito, and takes up too much screen time for how little she contributes.
- Some critics think her fascination with serial killers and edgy topics comes across as ham-fisted and a gimmicky attempt to make Sonia feel more unique than she actually is.
- The ship-tease between Gundham and Sonia has been met with some scrutiny as detractors argue that it overshadows her as a character perceivng the hints and reduces her to a romance subplot as well as opposing shipping veterans who don't approve of the romantic overtones.
- Sonia (like other Danganronpa Characters) gets butchered in the anime, which in her case gets reduced to a more shallow supporting character, and contributing to much less in the anime than she did in the game.
