Shadow the Hedgehog is a major character in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. He serves as the main antagonist of Sonic Adventure 2, a major character in Sonic Heroes, the main protagonist of his solo game Shadow the Hedgehog and one of the two deuteragonists of Sonic '06. He is Sonic's rival who sees himself as superior to Sonic.
In Japanese dub, he is voiced by Koji Yusa. In English dub, he is voiced by David Humprey, Ryan Drummond, Jason Griffith, and currently being voiced by Kirk Thornton.

What Do People Like About Him?[]
- He has a tragic backstory in which his best friend Maria was killed, and he was sealed away for 50 years.
- While he did start off as a villain, he eventually remembered Maria's promise to save the world redeeming himself in the process.
- His voice actors' performance, especially Jason Griffin's are amazing.
- Sacrificed himself to defeat the Biolizard, although he comes back in later installments.
- In Sonic Heroes he went through an arc where he didn't know if he was real or not and eventually, he realized that it doesn't matter if he's real or not.
- In his solo game he defeats Black Doom, who attempted to manipulate Shadow to do his bidding, saving the world once again.
- In Sonic 06 when Mephiles the Dark convinces Shadow that humanity will hate him, he decides to not join him and fight like he always had. Fans considered this portrayal of Shadow to be the best version of all time and one of the brightest highlights in an otherwise infamous game.
- The Year 2024 was a big agenda for Sonic Team to revisit Shadow's Dephts with Sonic x Shadow Generations resulting Shadow receives major amount of fan-content memes such as "I Just Love Latinas Sonic", a line from one of Jehtt's videos.
- Sonic x Shadow Generations: The Dark Beginnings rerails Shadow's characterization and revisited Shadow's past and his origins to the fanbase.
- In Sonic x Shadow Generations, Shadow gaining Doom Powers such as Doom Wings is a creepy awesome to behold. He manages to defeat Black Doom once again, and for all.
- In Shadow Generations, he did accept the duel on equal terms with Sonic and was bested. However, he pulls a batman's gambit where he gave him a fake yellow emerald as a reward and keeping the real one while Sonic being cocky as usual, resulting Shadow's ironic victory.

- In Japanese, this is one of Koji Yusa's star-making roles in video games who portrayed him as an anime rival known for being angsty and then reforms in the climax of Sonic Adventure 2. His voice is enough to make Aoi Yuuki, a fangirl of Sonic the Hedgehog franchise and the Japanese voice of Sticks and the female voice of Avatar in Sonic Forces squeaking.
- The English has David Humphrey (Sonic Adventure 2 - SEGA Superstars), Jason Griffith (Shadow the Hedgehog - Sonic and SEGA All Stars Racing), and currently being voiced by Kirk Thornton (From Sonic Colors (DS Version) & Sonic Free Riders onwards) who shines back in Sonic Forces & Sonic x Shadow Generations after voicing his infamous incarnation in Sonic Boom.
What Do People Hate About Him?[]
- By the time of his solo game, he was flanderized into being a more edgy character, such as using guns for weapons, riding motorcycles and being more anti heroic and jerkish than in the previous games.
- The most infamous portrayal of Shadow's flanderization came from a Sonic Boom series adaptation, where he is reduced to a generic shonen rival. In the Japanese dub of Rise of Lyric, it's stated that Shadow was brainwashed, but his character arc was quickly aborted.
- By the time in Sonic x Shadow Generations, Shadow becoming edgy again, except with narm-charm, for having Doom Powers, in which he grows Wings, becomes a squid, and rides an organic surfboard, and it has plot purpose for Black Doom's plan rather than being just plain badass. ļæ¼
- Even though he already went through a redemption arc in Sonic Adventure 2, he has to go through another one in Shadow the Hedgehog where he goes back to trying to destroy the world in some endings.
- Due to his popularity, some people would consider him to be very overrated.

- If Shadow died in Sonic Adventure 2 like he was originally planned to, he would have most likely been an Ensemble Dark Horse.
