“ | The truth is.. I've always known in my heart, there was nothing I could have done for you. But I love you..!! No matter what's happened, I still care for you more than I can bear.. If I could had taken all your pain... onto myself to comfort you, I would have.. and here we are again, and still all I can do is sit here and cry. ...I'm so pathetic..! But...Sasuke! If I still have a place in your heart, no matter how small it may be.. then please.. I'm begging you, don't slip away any further..! If we just stayed together.. forever.. then I'm sure.. some day.. things would go back to how they used to be.. | „ |
~ Sakura Haruno |
Sakura Uchiha (née Haruno) is the tritagonist of the Naruto manga/anime series and a supporting character in the Boruto series. She is a jōnin-level kunoichi of Konohagakure's Uchiha Clan and among the best medical-ninja in the world. She is a member of Team Kakashi. She is also Sasuke Uchiha's wife and the mother of Sarada Uchiha.
She is voiced in Japanese by Chie Nakamura, and by Kate Higgins (who also voices Aurora) in the English dub.
What Makes Her a Base Breaking Character?[]
What Do People Like About Her?[]
- Sakura started out as the scrappy who wasn't very well-liked as a character in the franchise (see the detractors' section for details), but over time, how Sakura's flaws were handled began to be seen as Kishimoto's mistakes on writing female characters, opinions on Sakura have changed and she has been elevated to a base-breaking character ever since.
- Fans believe that Sakura has so much potential to be an interesting character in the series was underutilized and longed for her to be more involved in the plot.
- She has a fair share of cool moments within the series, like her duel with Sasori, where she was able to hold her own until Chiyo arrived to help her out.
- Fans enjoy her character design and she is considered one of the most beautiful female characters in the series.
- Throughout the series, Sakura is shown to have developed as a character, subverting many of her negative traits and becoming a much more selfless, sympathetic and mature person.
- This is shown through her growing affection and friendship with Naruto (whom she disliked at the beginning of the series).
- Her childish crush on Sasuke actually matures into genuine love over time. Fans actually like her loyalty and how unwavering her love for him is.
- She seeks to become stronger to protect her teammates and later decides to train under Tsunade to learn healing abilities and, despite not always succeeding in doing it, she is shown to help, as when she protected Naruto and Sasuke in the forest of death or when she heals the wounded when the village is attacked. Fans like her determination and growth as medical ninja and, in the Boruto series, she is also considered one of the best medical ninjas in the world.
- This makes fans view claims of her uselessness as exaggerated for the character later in the series, as she has greatly developed her skills and even saved Naruto and Sasuke on certain occasions.
- Her portrayal in the Boruto has won over even more fans since many of her character flaws, if not all of them, are absent. She has become a very respectable medical ninja, helping to save many people. To add the icing on the cake, she is a loving mother towards Sarada and has always been there for her every step of the way.
What Do People Hate About Her?[]
- Sakura's detractors have found her short temper and aggression towards Naruto to be grating rather than for slapstick humour which was how they were meant to be played out, especially in the anime adaptation which makes her more aggressive moments go as far as physical abuse, although they were unjustified at the same time. For the most part, Naruto didn't do anything to warrant this treatment.
- Early on in the series, she tends to be rude and annoying. Notably, when she speaks badly of Naruto for being an orphan and not having "parents to scold him", without considering that Sasuke is also an orphan (which she should have been aware of as it was common knowledge at that point) to the point that even Sasuke, who by then considered Naruto just a loser, defends him and insults Sakura by telling her that she is annoying.
- The fact that her main ambition is winning Sasuke's affection makes detractors not like her character. Even later on when she has other goals such as becoming stronger to help her teammates, the writing of the story always focuses on her love for Sasuke as being her main trait, which is viewed as a negative thing by people who wanted to see other aspects of the character explored.
- Her obsession with wanting to be with Sasuke depicted her as being very clingy early on in the series (where she is very annoying and immature about it), including because she has other loved ones who care about her.
- Detractors dislike that Sakura broke off her friendship with Ino and declared her a "rival" just because they were both interested in Sasuke, even though Ino had been a great friend to her, even defending her from bully girls.
- Furthermore, her fight with Ino in the Chunin Exams is considered by the detractors one of the worst fights in the series or anime in general, especially when most of the preliminary fights in the Chunin Exams are considered the best of the series (such as Gaara and Lee's fight) and the fact that it ended in a forced draw.
- Detractors dislike that later in the series Sakura still has love for Sasuke after all the times he mistreated her and even tried to kill her, and think she is too forgiving of him.
- In the main series, she tends to be the team's load, barely doing much in battle, usually needing to be saved or protected by other heroes, and often relying on Naruto and Sasuke on many occasions. All of this leads people to deem her useless.
- Fans dislike that she falsely confessed to Naruto and lied to him about no longer loving Sasuke, in order to make Naruto give up on saving Sasuke. This showed how short-sighted she was in terms of understanding Naruto, a teammate who she is close friends.
- Even in Boruto, there are some people who still find her mostly uninteresting as a character.
