“ | Roman: You're not going anywhere, Sidney. It's time you came to terms with me, and with mother. Maybe you never knew her at all, Sidney, maybe you just can't get past the surface of things! Sidney: Who the hell are you? Roman: The other half of you. I searched for a mother too, an actress named Rina Reynolds, tried to find her my whole life! And four years ago, I actually tracked her down. Knocked at her door thinking she'd welcome me with open arms, but she had a new life and a new name! Maureen Prescott! You were the only child she claimed, Sidney! She shut me out in the cold forever! Her own son… (unmasks himself) Roman Bridger, director. (uses voice changer) And brother. (turns voice changer off) She slammed the door in my face, Sid. She said that I was Rina's child and that Rina was dead. And then it struck me: "What a good idea". So I watched her. I made a little home movie, a little, a little family film. It seems Maureen, mom, she really got around. I mean, Cotton was one thing. Everybody knew about that, but Billy's father? That was the key. Your boyfriend didn't like seeing his daddy in my film too much. He didn't like it at all. Once I supplied the motivation, all the kid needed was a few pointers; have a partner to sell out in case you get caught, find someone to frame. It was like he was making a movie. Sidney: You… This is all because of you. Roman: I'm a director, Sid. I direct. |

Roman Bridger, formerly known as Roman Roberts, is the main antagonist of the Scream franchise.
A renowned film director responsible for the production of Stab 3, in reality Roman is the true mastermind behind the murder of his mother Maureen Prescott, which in turn led to the Ghostface killings in Woodsboro and Windsor College, before subsequently enacting his own Ghostface killing spree upon the cast of Stab 3. He is also the half-brother and arch-nemesis of protagonist Sidney Prescott.
He was portrayed by Scott Foley. While disguising his voice, he was voiced by Roger L. Jackson. For his in-costume scenes as Ghostface, he was portrayed by Brian Avery and Jeff Brockton.
What Makes Him a Base Breaking Character?[]
What Do People Like About Him?[]
- As a Ghostface killer, Roman proves to be one of the most competent villains in the entire franchise.
- Many fans like how, unlike the killers in the first two films (and later Scream IV, Scream (2022), and Scream VI), Roman didn't need an accomplice to help him with his killing spree.
- Many people enjoyed Scott Foley's performance.
- He serves as an interesting to foil to series main protagonist Sidney Prescott with both of them dealing with their past. The difference here being that Roman wants revenge for Maureen shutting him out by orchestrating her death while Sid learns to accept who her mother was.
- Him being rejected by him mother and motivated to kill her out of revenge makes fan almost feel sorry for him.
What Do People Hate About Him?[]
- Roman's existence as the mastermind behind Maureen's death felt like a massive retcon in the eyes of the fanbase.
- The fact that Sid and Roman were related had many fans feel as if the filmmakers ran out of ideas given how there was nothing that hinted, both in the first film and Scream 3 until the reveal, that Roman was Sidney's half-brother.
- The voice changer used by Roman throughout the film felt way too convenient, especially when he used that to mimic Sidney's voice to lure Dewey and Gale to John Milton's house and force the movie into a finale.
- Some fans find him very whiny and annoying.
- Many think him faking his death was dumb since Gale checked his pulse and thought he was dead.
Trivia[]
- Roman is the current icon for the Mature template with him having a hostage.
- While Roman is currently a Base-Breaking Character, there's a chance (albeit slim) that his status might be affected in the upcoming Scream 7, due to Scott Foley being cast in the movie.
