Ray Bulgarin (Russian: Рэй Булгарин) is the overarching antagonist of the Grand Theft Auto IV trilogy, being the overarching antagonist of Grand Theft Auto IV and the main antagonist of The Ballad of Gay Tony.
He is a powerful Russian crime lord, who seeks revenge on Niko Bellic, for supposedly "betraying" him by escaping from a sinking ship, which was carrying people. Later he would also come into conflict with Tony Prince and his bodyguard Luis Lopez, also blaming them for stealing his diamonds.
He is voiced by Vitali Baganov.
What Makes Him a Base-Breaking Characters?[]
What Do People Like About Him?[]
- Some consider him one of the darkest villains in the entire GTA franchise (Perhaps the darkest), for different reasons:
- The fact that he was involved in human trafficking is already quite dark, even by GTA standards (at least in the HD universe), but Niko himself was involved in this.
- He is partially responsible for most of the events that occur in the GTA IV trilogy, since the diamonds (which are supposedly his) are key objects in the story, several characters die because of them (The Cook, Evan Moss, Jim Fitzgerald, Isaac Roth, Ray Boccino, Ray Bulgarin himself, etc.) or are kidnapped (Gracie Ancelotti, Roman Bellic). Also, being Dimitri's partner, he was probably responsible for him tormenting and trying to kill Niko and Roman, since Bulgarin wanted Niko dead, it is likely that he ordered it to Dimitri.
- He shoots his sister when she starts making fun of him.
- He sadistically reveals to Luis the decapitated cook in a box and then threatens to do everything possible to kill him and Tony.
- Despite being taken less seriously, in TBoGT, some are still amused by his man-child behavior such as when he uses his gun simulating a guitar, Galina's comments about him using steroids, or his call with Luis, where, Luis makes fun of him.
What Do People Hate About Him?[]
- Many do not like or directly hate the reinterpretation that was given to him in TBoGT, where he went from being an intimidating and terrifying crime lord to being directly a joke, a clown that Luis and Galina constantly make fun of, This gets worse, if we take into account that this guy literally did human trafficking before the events of the story and for some reason now behaves in a comical way in the game.
- Many believe that his appearance in TBoGT is an excuse to tie up the loose ends of the story, since he only appears twice in GTA IV, apart from the fact that most do not like that they made him the main antagonist since he does not fit. a lot in the light tone of the expansion, and apart from that we had previously been introduced to Rocco Pelosi, who fit much better as the main antagonist instead of Ray.
- Many also believe that it must have been Niko who finally killed Bulgarin, since he has a more personal villainy with him than with Luis.
- And even so, some would prefer that he had not died so that they could see him in the future.
