Rainbow Dash is one of the main protagonists of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. She is one of Twilight Sparkle's friends and a member of the Mane Six.
She was voiced by Ashleigh Ball.
What Makes Her a Base Breaking Character?[]
What Do People Like About Her?[]
- Her extreme loyalty and dedication to protecting her friends, such as choosing her friends over fame and success from the Shadowbolts, and choosing flying for Ponyville over the Wonderbolts at the Equestria Games.
- Being a nurturing older sister-like character to Scootaloo, caring for her like she is her own ward, and protecting her, especially including in Season 8, episode 20 titled The Washouts, where she stops Scootaloo from idolizing the group with the same name as the episode, as they are bad role models and endanger other pony's lives.
- Has helped the Mane 6 stop several villains, such as;
- Using her Element of Loyalty combined with the other Elements of Harmony to defeat Nightmare Moon and reform her back into Princess Luna.
- Helping distract the crystal ponies in the Crystal Empire from seeing the fake crystal heart to keep them as crystals to decrease them from falling into fear, making it harder for King Sombra to conquer the Crystal Empire.
- Turning her as well as the other Mane 6's keys to unlock the Chest of Harmony, rainbow powering them and collectively defeating while shrinking Lord Tirek back to his small skinny size, him getting imprisoned in Tartarus.
- Her and the Mane 6 using their powers together to supposedly defeat King Sombra, only for him to return and destroy the Tree of Harmony, but later they collectively use their Elements of Harmony without any physical elements, killing King Sombra a 2nd time.
- Her, the other Mane 6, the Young 6, and the Pillars of Equestria uniting their powers with assistance from several Earth, Pegasi, Unicorn, and other creatures, collectively making a large rainbow of light, defeating the mean 3 by removing their powers given to them by Grogar's Bewitching Bell, and officially get defeated when Discord, Princess Luna, and Princess Celestia turn them to stone.
- The Mane 6 would never find their talents if it weren’t for filly Rainbow Dash's sonic rainboom, and this action being prevented would allow the villains to succeed.
What Do People Hate About Her?[]
- She can be extremely annoying due to her self-absorbed egomaniacal personality, it especially being more burdensome in episodes where those traits are part of the central plot of the episode, especially:
- Season 6, episode 15 28 Pranks Later, where she does abhorrently cruel pranks on the residents of Ponyville, including Fluttershy, and yelling "Gotcha" after each prank, despite in Season 1, Episode 5 titled Griffin the Brush-Off, Rainbow Dash did not prank Fluttershy because Pinkie Pie told her not to, and because Fluttershy is too sensitive for pranks. The pranks that Rainbow Dash does are: disguising herself as a monster and making a convincing roar, terrifying Fluttershy, cruelly saying "Boo" to prove her point that Fluttershy gets scared too easily; replacing Rarity's with cake; taking Applejack's bed into the pigpen while sleeping on it; replacing Cranky Doodle Donkey's toupee with a skunk, him putting it on his head and getting sprayed by it; continually dropping letters down on Spike's head, only for him to fire burp them to Princess Celestia, who is surrounded by letters; Putting a large boulder on Big McIntosh's cart, making him get dragged down the hill by the boulder-carrying cart; Putting a brick in Mr. Carrot Cake's hay burger, later hurting his jaw by biting it; and drawing a stinky Miss Cheerilee on the blackboard, which may be a reference to the Big Fat Meanie Mrs. Puff drawing from the Season 3 episode of SpongeBob SquarePants titled New Student Starfish. Fortunately, Rainbow Dash gets comeuppance for her extreme antics via the whole town pretending to fall for her prank by buying the cookies and pretending to be zombies, with her not liking the prank and learning not to prank when making people uncomfortable.
- Season 8, episode 9 titled Non-Compete Clause, which is the worst episode of the entire show and the episode with the highest amount of character flanderization, with Rainbow Dash and Applejack being at their most flanderized because they reverted their character growth, had obnoxious personalities, endangered the Young 6 several times due to their disagreements, and they never learned their lesson at the end, continuing to argue and disagree with each other despite learning not to all the way back in Season 1, episode 13 titled Fall Weather Friends, where they learned not to let their competitive rivalry get too aggressive because that causes more inconveniences than advantages to both parties, and Non-Compete Clause is just a poorly rehashed albeit flanderized version of that episode.
- In Season 7, Episode 23 titled Secrets and Pies, Rainbow Dash has successfully distracted Pinkie Pie and pretended to eat the pie while she's not looking several times for a long time, with the fake eating sounds shown in the flashbacks being cringey to some viewers.
- In My Little Pony: The Movie, Capper is successful at convincing Tempest Shadow, her sidekick Grubber, and the Storm Creatures near her that the Mane 6 were going towards Black Skull Island instead of Mount Aris where the Hippogriffs live, until Rainbow Dash's pridefulness makes her show off in front of Captain Celaeno's crew, making a big grandiose Sonic Rainboom, revealing their location to Tempest Shadow, making her see through Capper's well-intentioned feigning of the truth, and as punishment for secretly harboring Princess Twilight Sparkle, Tempest Shadow blows up Captain Celaeno's ship attempting to kill all of her pirate crew.
