Queen Amaya is the overarching protagonist of Disney's 62nd full-length animated feature film Wish, which serves as a milestone celebration for the 100th anniversary of The Walt Disney Company. She is the queen of Rosas and the ex-wife of King Magnifico.

She is voiced by Angelique Cabral.

What Makes Her a Base-Breaking Character?[]

What Do People Like About Her?[]

  • She's a kind, benevolent ruler who genuinely wants to help her people.
  • She admires Asha and how she also looks out for others, which is the reason why she recommended her as Magnifico's apprentice in the first place.
  • She isn't afraid and doesn't hesitate to help the others take down her husband once she's realized he's gone too far and started using evil magic.
  • After Magnifico is defeated and trapped in his staff, when he demands that Amaya release him, she also doesn't hesitate to refuse and orders a guard to lock him in the dungeon, standing up to him and thereby putting him in his place once and for all.

What Do People Hate About Her?[]

  • Some found her personality rather bland and generic, feeling she didn't do much in the movie only until after Magnifico threatened her. That's also why they preferred the original concept where she would've also been evil alongside her husband.
  • Some thought that her teaming up with Asha and her friends came completely out of nowhere, especially since she seemed compliant and supportive with Magnifico in the first half of the movie. Some also think that while her turning against him makes sense, her not seeming too traumatized by her husband’s turn to villainy and not being conflicted over leaving him in the staff doesn’t make much sense, since she should have been at least a bit saddened about what her husband has become.
    • Funny enough, this has led some people to view Amaya in a deeply negative light because this was not only a contradiction of character but made herself come off as a woman who did not care much about her husband at all. In a way making her previous characterization come off as a facade.
  • Despite what Magnifico did to her, fans who sympathized with him were put off by her reaction to him being trapped in the crystal of his staff, feeling it was too harsh. Even some who don’t sympathize with him feel like her reaction doesn’t work for the aforementioned reasons.
  • Her reaction to him getting imprisoned is considered unrealistic as she seems to be too cool with him trapped there forever despite the fact that she was in a loving marriage with him just two days ago.
  • Like her husband, many people prefer the original concept of Amaya and Magnifico being a villainous couple. It was an idea that was not done in any Disney movie and the concept itself would make Magnifico and Amaya more appealing to sit through.
