“ | It’s Finn McMissile! He’s seen the camera, kill him! | „ |
~ Professor Zundapp’s most famous quote. |
Professor Otto Wolfgang Zündapp, better known as Professor Z, is the secondary antagonist of Pixar's 12th full-length feature film Cars 2, the second installment in the Cars film series.
He is a German weapons designer and a scientist who works for Sir Miles Axlerod in the latter's plot to turn the entire world against alternative fuel and make money out of it. He is Finn McMissile's arch-nemesis, as he killed (both indirectly and directly) secret agents Leland Turbo and Rod Torque Redline, two of Finn's associates.
He was voiced by Thomas Kretschmann.
What Makes Him a Base Breaking Character?[]
What Do People Like About Him?[]
- He is the most well-written and sophisticated villain in the Cars franchise, mostly around in Cars 2. Unlike some of the other antagonists like Chick Hicks, Sir Miles Axlerod and Jackson Storm, he isn't a generic jerk or blandest character, given he has a very impressive Evil is Cool vibe, as he has many entertaining moments that are considered enjoyable as well as having a pretty well intimidating personality as a villain.
- He is highly intelligent as he is able to create a EMP weapon disguised as a camera designed to blow up other cars engines.
- Even though he follow Sir Miles Axlerod's orders into sabotaging the World Grand Prix, not only that, but he also killed Rod Redline and Leland Turbo in cold blood. This makes Zundapp a personally dangerous and dark character, even for a kids movie.
- He is a perfect arch-nemesis for Finn McMissile, as he is able to spy on him whenever he shows up to the lemons' oil rigs and has his lemon henchcars attempt to kill him.
- He easily doesn't get fooled, as he discovers something that shows up, like Finn McMissile on top of the Oil Rig, catching Rod's reaction when seeing him pass the secret information of the lemon boss to Mater while torturing the latter, and realizes that Mater's cover has been exposed while disguising as one of the lemons' tow trucks.
- He has a well done villainous voice due to a legendary performance by Thomas Kretschmann in both the English and German dubs of Cars 2.
- His popularity made him the main antagonist of Cars 2: The Video Game on the Hunter missions where he sent his henchmen to attack the player by watching from his helicopter while attempting to shoot a missile at the player and for being an unlockable playable character.
What Do People Hate About Him?[]
- When following Sir Miles Axlerod's plan along with the rest of the lemons to destroy the World Grand Prix racers by painting alternative fuel as bad and have people switch to gasoline so they can be the richest cars in the world feels kind of illogical, due to his leader's motives coming across as unnecessarily complicated even for the film's standards not being big enough.
- Some viewers didn’t like that he ended up being the secondary villain rather than the main one, and feel like this was a waste of potential.
- Not only that, his role to be Sir Miles Axlerod's right-hand henchmen comes across as pointless since he follows his illogical plans or not being the only one carrying out his own plans towards the film and the fact that he did not activate the bomb that planted on Mater's air filter was Axlerod himself, which was considered pretty wasted.
Trivia[]
- If the movie didn't have Sir Miles Axlerod being the main antagonist into turning Professor Zundapp his right-hand scientist as the secondary antagonist and having do these illogical plans that make no sense like creating a fuel to blow up the race cars' engines (though that may sound understandable at the very least) or being rich, then Zundapp wouldn't have counted due to being too major as he would've been the main antagonist of the sequel.
- If a fourth movie of Cars gets released that he was going to return, this might affect his status and should possibly be the main antagonist and ultimate evil in the Cars franchise, as this results into him counting as a Main Light Horse as the plot should make a lot more sense than the sequel (at least it was so bad that it's good ironically).
