Princess Aurora (Also known as Briar Rose or just Aurora for short) is the titular deuteragonist in Disney's 16th animated full-length animated feature, Sleeping Beauty.
As the only daughter of King Stefan and Queen Leah, Aurora is cursed by the evil fairy, Maleficent, to die on her sixteenth birthday. Due to the efforts of the Three Good Fairies, the curse was changed from death to sleep until True Love's Kiss. She is the third princess in a line-up of Disney Princess.
In the original film, she was voiced by Mary Costa and was modeled by the late Helene Stanley. In other media, she is voiced by Erin Torpey, Jennifer Hale, and Kate Higgins.

What Do People Like About Her?[]
- Despite not being well developed, she still has an interesting personality, as proven when she is shown being kind to her fairy godmothers and animal friends.
- It can be understandable to some people that the reason she didn't have too much dialogue is because she, along with the whole kingdom, has been placed under a sleeping spell.
- Even with her role as the damsel-in-distress, she is shown to be a competent princess, especially when she was told by the fairies to not touch the spinning wheel.
- In Disney Princess Enchanted Tales: Follow Your Dream, she temporarily rules over her subjects when her family goes out of town for a royal business and plans a banquet for them.
- Her Pure Good portrayal in Maleficent is considered by some people to be a good incarnation since she's not the damsel.
What Do People Hate About Her?[]
- Unfortunately, the biggest criticism surrounding her is that Princess Aurora is perhaps well-known for her notorious role throughout the film as the damsel-in-distress, in which several fans and feminists alike criticize her for being a passive and helpless damsel who did nothing significant to the plot.
- An infamous case is when she didn't have any screen time to do anything proactive throughout the film, compared to the rest of the Disney Princesses created before and after her.
- While the role was tolerable during the era the film was released in, her detractors still found it hard to ignore these implications back in the old days.
- Detractors think she arguably has little to no personality other than being kind and caring that can be underdeveloped. As a result, most polls tend to put her as one of, if not, the most least-loved Disney Princesses.
- Even though she is supposed to be the main character, she was getting so little focus that many people consider her to be kind of a weak protagonist.
- Not to mention, it appears that this film is clearly focusing more on her three fairy godmothers and possibly, Maleficent and Prince Phillip.
- Along with a troubled production, this kind of marketing was one of the reasons why her film originally did not perform so well at the box office during its initial release in 1959.
Trivia[]
- Due to her being the first Disney Princess to have both of her parents alive, she is the only Disney Princess and one of the few Base Breaking characters to have both of her parents that are also Base Breaking Characters.
