What Makes Him A Base Breaking Character?[]
What Do People Like About Him?[]
- Fans enjoy his voice acting and design.
- His fans like him for being a good portrayal of a sociopath and think that the twist coming out of nowhere makes him more scarily realistic.
- Fans find him to be really funny, especially his song with Anna, "Love Is An Open Door," which is considered an iconic song.
- Some fans sympathize with his backstory revealed in the tie-in novel and think that it made him more complex.
- People enjoyed the way he was defeated at the end.
What Do People Dislike About Him?[]
- Detractors considered him to be one of the worst Disney twist villains for two different reasons:
- The first is that there was hardly any build-up to his reveal, with the only foreshadowing being very minor scenes and that it overall didn't make sense as a twist. An example of this is him smiling romantically while he had a boat on his head and no one was watching him, thus the scene doesn't look like he's faking anything.
- The second is that the twist is criticized as being too obvious, due to Anna having been told repeatedly she can't marry a man she just met and the film being meant to be a deconstruction of fairy tales, where the prince is usually a savior.
- His detractors were also upset that he didn't turn out to be a hero, and felt that his turn to villainy was forced and wished Elsa was the villain instead like it was originally planned.
- His plan is seen as non-sensical and poorly done by his detractors. Shortly after the reveal he convince everyone to follow his orders by saying he and Anna just pronounced wedding vowes, which is immediately believed by the others without anyone questioning it, and a few detractors pointed out the weirdness of a marriage being done by just the groom and the bride.
- He's seen as contradicting by some, as he was portrayed as a twist villain sociopath in the first film and later as a sympathetic villain in the tie-in novel, which made viewers question how he was supposed to be seen.
