Philomela Sargant (フィロメラ・サーガント) is the deuteragonist of season 2 of the anime/manga series The Ancient Magus' Bride, alongside Elias Ainsworth. She is the student of the College and the granddaughter of Lizbeth Sargant. She serves under her in order to please her as well as in hoping of bringing her late parents back to life. After Chise Hatori saved her from being sacrificed by the ritual, she turned against her grandmother and regain her freedom.

Why Do People Like Her?[]
- Some people like her for being a centerpiece of two main themes of the College arc: the complicated relationships and newer generations can choose to respond to the expectations placed upon them by their elders or break out of the family tradition and start a new.
- Her relationships with other characters are what made her character intriguing, from the parallels with Chise and how much they have in common, how her vile grandmother Lizbeth sees her as an inferior Adam, the competitive relationship between her cousin Rian.
- Her character growth over the course of the arc, especially at the near end where she stands up against Lizbeth, is what makes her so endearing and satisfying as she broke out of her grandmother's cage.
- A lot of people really sympathize with Philomela on what she had gone through: from losing her parents as a toddler because of Lizbeth, being forced to live with her abusive grandmother for about a decade, having to unhealthfully study to meet Lizbeth's extremely high expectations, being abused and imprisoned over slight incompetence, and finally having to witness the death of one real family she had left, Alycone.
Why Do People Dislike Her?[]
- Some people find her character arc too long and boring. Her arc is too slow-paced that few fans got bored and dropped the anime because of her.
- Some said she takes too much screen time when other newer characters like Isaac, Rian, Zoe, and Veronica should have gotten more in order to established theirs.
- Some also complain about her presence taken up too much to the point that Chise and Elias interacted noticeably less in Season 2 comparing to Season 1.
- While her complex relationships with Chise and Lizbeth are very well received from fans, some people complain about her relationship with other characters, namely Lucy and Isaac, being underdeveloped.
- Some people find her annoying for being overly reliant on being a Woobie and an Extreme Doormat, at least until her redemption.
