Patrick Star is the deuteragonist of the SpongeBob SquarePants franchise.
He is a dimwitted starfish who is the best friend of SpongeBob SquarePants.

- Alongside SpongeBob, Patrick is a classic cartoon character who has entertained many fans during their childhoods, and even with his faults he still continues to be known as an entertaining and memorable character to this day.
- He is a hilarious character who provides comic relief through his antics and unpredictable activities, providing countless memes.
- His characterization since the second half of season 9 and in The Patrick Star Show since "The Patterfly Effect" was praised for being more faithful to the pre-movie seasons, where he is portrayed as being genuinely good-hearted and competent underneath his stupidity without being exaggerated and any deliberate jerkish qualities hardly show.
What Do People Hate About Him?[]
- Many hate how he and SpongeBob annoy Squidward and make his life miserable, sometimes on purpose. In the episode "Ink Lemonade", he terrorizes Squidward to squeeze ink out of him while knowing all of his worst fears (even making a puppet depicting an elderly Squidward working at the Krusty Krab knowing how much he hates his job).
- From the sixth season to the ninth season, he underwent severe flanderization that increased his stupidity to annoying degrees. While in earlier seasons he was stupid enough to not understand the harm he was causing, in later seasons he makes decisions too unreasonable to be excused and often shows awareness of how bad his actions are but continuing to do so anyway.
- He even admits that he mixes up his stupidity, which caused detractors to see a new perspective towards Patrick's antagonistic actions as him committing his worst actions on purpose while using his stupidity as a façade to avoid consequences.
- He can be a huge jerk sometimes, often insulting others while acting hypocritically towards anyone that sees him as being in the wrong.
- His general reception was tainted in Seasons 6-8, where he alongside most characters were flanderized into becoming more jerkish and mean-spirited. Even though most characters were returned to their former characterizations in Season 9 onward, including Patrick himself, he still has a few infamous moments in later seasons such as the aforementioned "Ink Lemonade".
