Ozai is the main antagonist of the 2005 Nickelodeon series, Avatar: The Last Airbender.
What Makes Him a Base Breaking Character?[]
What Do People Like About Him?[]
- Many fans feel like the flashbacks that built Ozai up were intimidating. The fact that, once he was revealed in Season 3, he came the closest to defeating Aang, proved to the fans that he was a threat worth taking seriously.
- Aang's dreams about him were absolutely hilarious, especially the last one where he plays an UNO reverse card with pants on his legs.
- His royal robes are cool, looking colorful and intimidating without looking ugly or distracting.
- Many people like how Mark Hamill, known for portraying Luke Skywalker and voicing The Joker, also provided Ozai's voice.
What Do People Hate About Him?[]
- While Ozai does have fans who take him as a serious threat, his detractors view him as a one-dimensional for a complete monster villain. Despite how much of a threat Ozai is treated with by the narrative, many detractors dislike how he has less character development than Zuko and Azula. There's nothing surprising about him, making people wonder why his face was obscured in shadow for two whole seasons. Overall, the whole point of his character is scarring his son physically and emotionally, driving his daughter insane, and trying to destroy the world due to selfish and shallow reasons.
- Both of his motives, which are lust for power and growing up in Iroh's shadow, are considered by some fans to be very shallow.
