Natsu Dragneel is one of the main protagonist in the anime/manga Fairy Tail. He is a Fire Dragon Slayer who was raised by the Fire Dragon King Igneel, who taught him about Dragon Slayer Magic. He was born over 400 years ago and lived with his parents and Zeref Dragneel. One day, a dragon attacked their home which killed everyone and Natsu himself, leaving Zeref as the only survivor. He gets revived by Zeref as the most powerful demon in The Book of Zeref as Etherious Natsu Dragneel. He was one of the five Dragon Slayers who got sent to the future in order to defeat Acnologia.

- Many fans are able to recognizable Natsu with his iconic catchphrases “I’M ALL FIRED UP NOW” and “NOW I FEEL THE FIRE IN MY BELLY”.
- Fans appreciate his loyalty to those he cares about and is always there to protect and determine his friends to never give up.
- He has plenty of well-known motivating friendship speeches which is something fans really enjoy.
- Fans view Natsu to be an incredibly strong protagonist. He rarely ever loses his fights and has an incredible power, which does make him even more powerful.
- He has multiple of fights that are loved and memorable by fans and find him to be one of the most badass characters in the series.
- His childish and stupidity can make him a very funny character with a great sense of humor.
- Many fans love his relationship with Lucy since he is always by her side to save her whenever she's in danger.
- Fans also really like his friendship with Happy as he always stay by his side from since he was a child when he hatched him for the first time.
- While people are upset that Natsu left Lucy, he had a reason of leaving and training for an entire year since he was still grieving over his foster father's death after feeling reuniting with him again.
- He also didn't know that Fairy Tail got disbanded since he left so early to hear Makarov's announcement of the guild disbanding.
- Although he did misunderstand his older brother Zeref rather blindly (as he blatantly disregarded Zeref's past and how his curse worked, even being blatantly relentless in treating him in the wrong and having him dead while not once trying to wonder why Zeref initiated the war on Ishgar despite seeing how much he loved him and wanted to give his own life for all of humanity, and even after learning about his true plan to reset the timeline to fix his mistake of cursing himself and unintentionally being the cause of humanity's suffering, Natsu forcefully asserted that his brother's goal is only for himself despite the fact that he really couldn't value the lives of others because of how his kind nature triggers his curse), Natsu eventually apologized to Zeref in 100 Year Quest after using his curse to heavily damage one of the Dragon Gods, realizing how wrong he was about Zeref and feeling remorseful for the way he treated him, including the fact that he was largely involved in his death. Natsu even promised to view Zeref as family as well, even considering him his only true brother, since Ignia (his adoptive brother) was nothing like him.
What Do People Hate About Him?[]
- Detractors view his character to be nothing more than a one-dimensional Shonen protagonist that lacks character development throughout the series.
- Natsu's fights are pretty much the Power of Friendship, which gets very repetitive and annoying fast since he easily beats villains who have a great potential of magic, this is especially shown in the final season in which he pretty much destroys anyone he fights with.
- Despite of being one of the main protagonists in the series, detractors believe that he has way too much screen time that he takes the spotlight of other characters, such as Gajeel.
- He also overshadows his older brother Zeref to a lesser extent, even though Zeref's long, deep, and detailed story arc (which had so much connection to the arcs of other characters) deserved more focus as well.
- Because of how much Natsu constantly wins all of his fights, detractors consider him to be overpowered.
- His childish and loud personality, as well as wanting to fight everyone all the time, can make him very annoying.
- Natsu also appears to be hypocritical by getting angry at other guilds for not treating their members right and really cares about friendship but he ends up betraying Gajeel in the Grand Magic Games when fighting Sting and Rogue by pushing him into a mine-cart, being aware of his motion sickness.
- He stops Gray from trying to kill himself with Iced Shell but when he fights Zeref, even learning that Natsu will die if he kills Zeref, he still tries to kill him and says "so what?"
- He gets mad at Gray for leaving Juvia without saying anything but he ends up leaving for an entire year without telling anyone.
