What are you willing to do? Would you even kill a Hom to beat us?
~ Mumkhar taunting Shulk

Mumkhar, also known as Metal Face, is a major antagonist of Xenoblade Chronicles. He was once a comrade to Dunban and Dickson during the Battle in Sword Valley, until his betrayal by cowardly fleeing to save himself. He was then captured by the Mechons and was converted into a Faced Mechon. He was responsible for ravaging Colony 9, the home of Shulk, Reyn, Fiora, and his former comrade Dunban.

He is voiced by Norio Wakamoto in Japanese, and by Timothy Watson in English.

What Makes Him a Base Breaking Character?[]

What Do People Like About Him?[]

  • People enjoy his hammy and over-the-top personality.
  • His voice performance by both of his JP and EN VA was perfected according to his fans.
  • Him "killing" Fiora early on in Colony 9 is considered one of the most impactful moments in the entire Xenoblade series.
  • When he was reintroduced as Metal Face, first-time players had no idea who his identity was. Every time he appears, he subtlety foreshadows to give us hints about his true identity: like nearby Colony 6, he suddenly speaks and taunts about Fiora's "death", and showing off his move in front of Dunban in Prison Island. This makes him effective at keeping his true identity hidden until in Valak Mountain.
  • Some fans find his death of being impaled by a large sharp spire after he accidently caused it himself when fighting the party members to be both ironic and fitting to his character.
  • Overall, some fans enjoy him for being great villain that made a big impact to Xenoblade Chronicles narrative, especially when he is the main reason why Shulk goes off on a vengeful quest to destroy all of Mechons.

What Do People Dislike About Him?[]

  • Some people found Mumkhar to be a flat and one-dimensional villain who lacks depth and complexity comparing to other Xenoblade Chronicles villains like Egil, Jin, and Malos.
  • While not as common detracting factor as the previous one, but his death felt unsatisfying to some fans as they think he should die by the hands of Dunban or Shulk for what he did.
