NOTE: This article is about Mum from the TV show, as her counterparts in the book series and Horrid Henry: The Movie are not Base-Breaking. |
"Mum" is one of the two secondary antagonists (alongside Simon) from the television show Horrid Henry, based on the children's book series of the same name by Francesca Simon.
She is the mother of Horrid Henry and Perfect Peter, and the wife of Simon. She often punishes Henry because of his constant misbehaving, while cherishing Peter's good behavior and defending him when Henry bullies him.
She was voiced by Tamsin Heatley.
What Makes Her a Base Breaking Character?[]
What Do People Like About Her?[]
- Her strictness towards Henry is usually understandable due to his tendency to misbehave. In some cases, there are times where she is justified in punishing him like when he sold Peter as a slave.
- Despite often punishing Henry, she does still care about him, like when she comforted him when he had a nightmare.
What Do People Hate About Her?[]
- Due to Henry being more sympathetic and likeable in the show compared to the book (where he was portrayed as being more sociopathic and sadistic even for a kid), she and her husband's treatment towards him comes off as unfair since they only punish him for being naughty rather than encouraging him to improve himself, unlike how they treat Peter. They come across as showing favoritism towards Peter and never giving Henry the same love or encouragement, leading to some interpreting Henry as acting out because he feels unloved by his parents and envying Peter for being favored more than him.
- She often mistreats Henry and punishes him to an excessive degree, even when his actions are minor or accidental, to the point where many find her unlikable.
- She often says "Don't be horrid, Henry" when Henry says something rude, but she also says it to him even when he makes a harmless comment just because she doesn't agree with him.
- When Henry saved Peter from being attacked by a dog when they were younger, she didn't thank Henry but instead scolded him for making Peter cry, even though he was at risk of being seriously injured or killed.
- She often reprimands Henry for actions that aren't his fault. In "Horrid Henry and the Tickly Treats Thief", she immediately blamed Henry for eating the Tickly Treats even though she saw proof that Fluffy ate them, and in "Perfect Peter's Horrid Day", when Peter put slugs in the chocolate box, she continued to blame Henry and coddled Peter even when the latter admitted that he willingly did it.
- Even though she is nicer to her other family members in comparison, viewers interpret her as being toxic towards them as well:
- She treats Peter like a golden child and makes his life as gentle as possible, resulting in him being unable to stand up for himself, overreacting when he makes mistakes and getting upset when Henry gets more attention than him. Some believe Peter to be just as much of a victim of her toxic parenting as Henry is, with his flaws being the result of her coddling and high expectations.
- She also treats her husband just as unfairly, like when she got him in trouble and in "Horrid Henry Helps Out" where she stopped him from bonding with Henry and Peter during a tight work schedule and told them all (including him) to go to bed. He treats Henry more decently in comparison and isn't as strict towards him when she isn't around, making it seem as if she's influencing him to treat Henry and Peter the same way she does.
