~ Hoffman's infamous line to Henry Kessler in the post-credits scene of Saw X, which became a minor internet meme. |
Detective-Lieutenant Mark Hoffman is the secondary antagonist of the Saw franchise, serving as a minor character in Saw III, the secondary antagonist of Saw IV, the main antagonist of Saw V, Saw VI and Saw 3D, a supporting character in Saw X, and will presumably return in some capacity in Saw XI. He is an apprentice of John Kramer who takes over his mentor's role of the Jigsaw Killer following John's death at the hands of Jeff Denlon.
He was portrayed by Costas Mandylor.
What Makes Him a Base Breaking Character?[]
What Do People Like About Him?[]
- Some people think he's overall a pretty cool character. Particularly due to the scene in Saw VI where he survives a reverse bear trap activating, using a door to stop it ripping his face off, which is usually considered one of the most intelligent acts in the entire series.
- He genuinely loved his sister, to the point where he murdered Seth Baxter with an unescapable trap for killing her, showing he doesn't completely lack depth.
- Many people think his actor Costas Mandylor did a good job playing him the series, making even the worst aspects of his character more tolerable and adding some charisma to Hoffman's character.
What Do People Hate About Him?[]
- Many people believe that he isn't nearly as good as John Kramer as a main antagonist, as John had a lot more redeeming traits such as being tragic and a well intentioned extremist, Hoffman on the other lacks both of those, and is mainly portrayed as purely psychopathic.
- The reveal of him being the new Jigsaw Killer in Saw IV came out of nowhere, as he had basically no characterisation before becoming the main antagonist of the series.
- And even after he became the main antagonist of the series, manly people still think he lacks a genuine motive and personality, making many people seem him as a one note psychopath.
