Marina is the lead female of the 1995 animated film, The Pebble and the Penguin. She is the most beautiful girl penguin of the rookery of Adélie penguins, as well as Hubie's love interest, eventually his wife in the end of the film.
What Makes Her a Base Breaking Character?[]
What Do People Like About Her?[]
- Despite being underdeveloped, she displays some personality traits, as proven when she ignores Hubie's flaws and focuses on his positive traits.
- Unlike the other female penguins in the Rookery, she knows the gifts behind the guy doesn't win the girl and it's the guy himself that matters; thus, she comes off as a positive role model to viewers.
- It can be understandable for some people of why she didn't have rhyme or chemistry to fall in love with Hubie is because she only had 12 minutes of screen time within the movie as she was back in Antarctica waiting for Hubie's return home.
- As a matter of fact, there are fans that wish she got more screen time that they would often write fanfics of the movie where she does fare more time on screen.
- Fans find her relationship with Hubie to be very heartwarming, as she didn't care what kind of pebble Hubie would get for her, and only cared about Hubie himself.
- Even with her role as the damsel in distress, she is strong-willed, as she knew when to say "no" the first time Drake forced himself onto her.
- A rather well-known case is she does at least fight back against Drake and try to run away from him, even though she failed to escape anyways.
- Her character design is admittedly beautiful and is the most attractive female character in the movie; more so than any other female penguin. Her prominent wide hips are what fans agree upon to be her most attractive physical feature.
- Overall, she's easily the most likable of all four leads in the film and is one of the reasons for the cult following of The Pebble and the Penguin in recent years, which does help her case.
What Do People Hate About Her?[]
- Marina, perhaps, is well known for being a bland love interest, who, due to the plot mechanics, barely has any reason or chemistry to fall in love with Hubie.
- Detractors feel her design is rather humanized, on top of having visible breasts, teeth, and fingers, none of which real female penguins possess.
- Adding onto her damsel in distress role, she took her time escaping, which was why Drake easily recaptured her.
- Fans didn't like that she had only 12 minutes of screen time out of the 174 minutes of the film's runtime, this is despite her being the supposed "deuteragonist" of the film before it turned out that Rocko was actually the deuteragonist and not her, even though the film falls under the romance genre where the love interest is usually the deuteragonist.
