Makoto Itou is the main protagonist of the School Days franchise. He is a perverted high school boy wishing to fulfill his sexual desires. His personality varies in different media where he ranges between being a sympathetic anti-hero to a downright Hate Sink.

What Makes Him a Base Breaking Character?[]

What Do People Like About Him?[]

  • The alternate interpretations of his character in different medias are entertaining to many fans, such as his player-dependent choices in the Visual Novels, his sympathetic portrayal in the original manga, his less likeable anime counterpart and his downright psychopathic version in the Cross Days manga.
  • Many find him to be a realistic portrayal and subversion of the average anime protagonist, seeing how his actions of cheating on women actually lead to consequences, contrasting him from many other characters in similar genres.
  • His anime counterpart, while receiving lots of hate, leads many to agree that this was the author's intention and did a good job at making himself one of the most disliked Hate Sinks in all of anime.

What Do People Hate About Him?[]

  • Due to some of his more loathsome actions in some media (where he has committed depraved acts like serial rape, pedophilia and incest), many find him getting sympathy in his other portrayals to be offensive and undeserved, given his rap sheet of sexual crimes.
  • While he was intended to be a Hate Sink in the anime, many criticize his portrayal as a betrayal to the original novels, which had hyped up the anime for a long time. Many were disappointed by Makoto's lack of character development, hateable traits and boring personality.
  • While it is somewhat intentional, many still complain about is boring and rather timid personality that is seen in most of his portrayals.
  • Many complain it is unrealistic how an average high school boy like him is able to attract every girl in school.
