Good boy.
~ Lenore to Hector.
I'm a diplomat, Hector. I make peace. Carmilla thinks you're a useful idiot at best, Striga wants to kill you when she thinks about you at all, and Morana wants to torture you. Not to get information out of you... just because she finds it calming.
~ Lenore explaining her occupation while telling Hector that he has no choice but to listen to her.

Lenore is a major antagonist within Castlevania: The Animated Series and serves as a diplomat for Carmilla's court. She is part of the Council of Sisters and is one of the rulers of Styria. Lenore marks her first appearance in season 3 and becomes Hector's lover by turning him into a slave so she can provide him with things that her sisters won't.

She is voiced by Jessica Brown Findlay.

What Makes Her a Base Breaking Character?[]

What Do People Like About Her?[]

  • Her relationship with Hector is complex due to Lenore feeling sympathy for Hector's situation and wanted to help him. Though she manipulated him into becoming a slave, Lenore felt it was a better option than Hector being tortured or killed by her sisters. She did provide things for Hector in the end and was protective of him.
  • Fans really like her design and find her cute and attractive.
  • Her suicide was very tragic with many feeling sorry for her.
  • Many people ship Hector and Lenore together not only by the complexity of it but also the dynamic between the two.

What Do People Hate About Her?[]

  • Many detractors despise her for rendering Hector to a slave and viewing him as her pet.
  • Despite the complexity and Lenore feeling sympathy for Hector, many detractors are disgusted by her relationship with him viewing it as a toxic one between the abuser and victim considering that Lenore tricked Hector into having sex with her, which would count as rape by deception. They hate how the show represents it as a complex romantic relationship and felt no sympathy for Lenore as a character because of this including how she treats him as a pet in season 3.
    • It doesn't help the fact that the series writer, Warren Ellis, has received many accusations of sexual coercion from women he tutored. This led some people to think that Lenore's treatment of Hector was not a mistake in the writing but done on purpose.
    • Even worse the show implied that Lenore constantly had sex with Hector without his consent.
  • Detractors felt there was an inconsistency between Lenore and Hector's relationship in both season 3 and 4. Season 3 highlighted the relationship as manipulative despite her being friendly with Hector and how unsympathetic she was towards Hector's reaction of becoming a slave. In season 4, however, both of them have a more friendly and less manipulative relationship while having typical banter.
  • Some people were disappointed with the conclusion to Lenore's story, where she ultimately choose to commit suicide instead of being with Hector.
  • Detractors feel Lenore is poorly written and often express no sympathy for her.
    • On top of that, those same detractors hate her so much that they wanted her to die painfully after Lenore manipulated Hector into having sex and later on turning him into a slave in the same scene. While not showing much sympathy to Hector's objections believing that's what he wanted.

Trivia[]

  • Lenore is so polarizing as a character it got to that point where one of the producers, Kevin Kolde, has mentioned that he found a lot of hate towards Lenore and was shocked about it when he was interviewed after the ending of season 4. He mentioned that many of them wanted her to die a painful death due to what she did to Hector.
