Korekiyo Shinguji is a major character in Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony, being a supporting protagonist in the prologue, Chapter 1 and Chapter 2, and the main antagonist of Chapter 3.
He is the Ultimate Anthropologist, who initially seems like a creepy yet harmless weirdo. However, he is later revealed to be a serial killer, who had killed around 90 women to grant his deceased sister (who he alleges he had a sexual relationship with) 100 friends.
He is voiced by Todd Haberkorn in the English dub.
What Makes Him a Base Breaking Character?[]
What Do People Like About Him?[]
- Many find him to be an endearing character, due to his passion for anthropology and his philosophies on the world.
- It is implied, intentionally or not, that his sister was a manipulative control freak, and given that she was older than Korekiyo, it is likely that their relationship started while Korekiyo was still mentally maturing. This causes many fans to believe that he was groomed into the relationship, adding an element of tragedy to his character.
- A lot of fans believe that he has potential, with some either axing the incest and murder plots in fanfiction, or having him realize that his relationship with his sister was wrong and having him work to recover from his fanatical obsession.
- Many fans like his design, which suits his dark aura.
- He's usually one of the most reasonable and collected students and is fairly decent at Class Trials, especially for someone outside of the main characters.
- He killed Angie Yonaga and Tenko Chabashira, with both being hated by a large portion of the fanbase.
- His "seesaw effect" as well as a simplified drawing of him known as “Kork” has became a huge meme in the Danganronpa community.
- The ending twist puts a lot of his characterization into perspective - it's entirely possible his pre-game self lacked the negative aspects of his character and he was merely a victim of Team Danganronpa's writing.
Why Do People Hate About Him?[]
- The reveal of his incestuous relationship with his sister caused disgust with a lot of fans.
- Many also felt that his incest plotline was shoehorned in, and a forced attempt to character-assassinate Korekiyo, especially when most of the other Blackened had sympathetic or at least understandable motives.
- His fans believe that his potential as a character (as outlined in Reason 3 of the "Why People Like Him" section) was wasted on making him a generic, irredeemably evil monster, rather than making him compelling or sympathetic.
