King Rhoam is one of the supporting characters of the Era of the Wilds Saga. He is the husband of the late Queen of Hyrule and the father of Princess Zelda. In his lifetime he was preparing for war against Calamity Ganon and reminds his daughter to train to awaken her dormant powers, which the latter struggles to due in wake of her mother's death the person who was supposed to be her teacher in this art.

What Makes Him a Base-Breaking Character?[]

What Do People Like About Him?[]

  • Fans do appreciate how warm Rhoam was to Link once he emerges from the Shrine of Resurrection and his wise teachings about how to survive the now harsh land that was once Hyrule and how much the events have changed him over the years since then.
  • In Breath of the Wild, he was seen in a sympathetic light as his journal in the secret room of the library reveals that he was so stressed and desperate about Calamity Ganon's return that he ended up adding stress and estrangement in his relationship with Princess Zelda. His wife's death, who is supposed to be the same person who would teach Zelda about awakening her power, contributed to this factor.
    • Even a few days after his wife's demise, King Rhoam was noted to wake up every night and wonder if she really was dead which sets up a sad moment for him.
  • In Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, he was still as strict with Zelda as ever, his positive traits begin to show through even more. In this game, his remorse over how he treats Zelda throughout her life was even more apparent and the reason he did that is because believed this how Hyrule is going to be saved.
  • Despite how tense their father-daughter relationship is, King Rhoam actually saves Zelda and Link from a Guardian and distracting them by having them aim at him to protect them goes to show how much he cares about her and willing to lose his life for her, even though he ends up turning the tables on the Guardians by using an Ancient Guardian Shield, it is still worth noting. His reconciliation with Zelda has won over some fans as they deem this moment the king's redemption arc.
  • He has a pretty good moveset in the game and being able to switch between his old man and royal king identities to switch his strategies.

What Do People Dislike About Him?[]

  • At the same time, King Rhoam was despised by his detractors for his overly strict nature he exhibits towards Princess Zelda and tends to act as a fantasy forbidding parent the Father and Daughter shows him admonishing her over her failures to awaken her powers and even added that at that rate she would end up on a throne of nothing but failure, which people find very off-putting for him to do which had some people believing that he inadvertently contributed to the downfall of his kingdom.
  • There are some fans who mis-blame him for causing the Calamity, and thought his death was well-deserved due to it, all because he was a strict parent to Zelda.

Trivia[]

  • While King Rhoam has managed to improve reception-wise, he still has not yet made a full exit from his base-breaking status and his popularity is not on the same level as the original and new Champions, including former base-breakers like Revali and Yunobo.
