He is voiced by Christopher Sean.
What Makes Him a Base Breaking Character?[]
Why Do People Like Him Character?[]
- Kazuda Xiono is one of the most polarizing protagonists in the history of the franchise, which is really saying something.
- He's one of the strongest elements of the show and a refreshing Contrasting Sequel Main Character by being an Adorkable and likable Nice Guy since the beginning (while previous protagonists like Ahsoka, Ezra and even Luke tend to need a bit of defrosting before becoming fully heroic).
- Unlike most of the main characters created for the various animated series (e.g. Ahsoka, Kanan, Ezra), he's not Force-sensitive. In addition, while Kazuda is still young, he's considered past the age of the usual Kid Hero in comparison to Ahsoka and Ezra, who both started their respective shows as fourteen year-olds. Also, unlike most Star Wars main characters, who have tended to come from backgrounds of being orphaned or impoverished, he's still in contact with his family until the start of the series and his family is rich and from an influential world.
- Going deeper, part of Ezra's arc was learning to be something beyond a survivor that fended for himself — he learned how to live, to live for others, and teach them to live too. On the other hand, Kaz's arc is starting from scratch: he's lived a life of privilege, but was always dependent on others, so he needs to learn how to survive on his own before he can start living for others. If Ezra and Kaz were to meet, Ezra would have a field day with Kaz.
- Additionally, Ezra was a street urchin with no fighting skills at the start of his series, while Ahsoka was a skilled combatant but had some trouble with leading her clone troops. Kazuda is already enlisted in the New Republic military by the time the series begins and is a skilled pilot to begin with, while the others had to step up and learn what it takes to be a soldier, Kazuda's arc revolves around him loosening up and becoming comfortable with the reckless and independent people of the Colossus. While Ezra was a scrappy street kid who escaped physical brawls through trickery and cunning, but lacked professional pilot training, Kazuda is a hopelessly clumsy oaf when it comes to actual fighting, but he instantly snaps to attention when he's behind the wheels of a starfighter, the one place where's completely in his element.
- Viewer enjoy the fact that he's not an immediate prodigy or The Ace, with the narrative allowing him to fail a lot and find his Character Development into becoming a true leader for the Colossus crew and becoming a more competent pilot and fighter rewarding.
- He was a pretty great pilot prior the series and ended up being more resourceful to fly a damaged racer, the Fireball. He even manage to avoid an explosion using an astroid, which Poe praised him for and manage to finally kill Major Voneg.
- While he was a bad mechanic (unlike the characters said above), Kaz improved his mechanic skills and even fixed the Fireball and sabotage enemy ships many times.
- His blaster skills was also questionable but overtime Kaz improved as he manage to stun (accidentally as the blaster was set to stun) Commander Prye and manage to shot straight, despite previous using simulation weapons.
- He also comes up with awesome plans which help the Colossus like he disguise himself as a stormtrooper several times, manage to infiltrate secured facilities, and when things go wrong, Kaz manages to get away using his skills.
- Being a native from Hosnian Prime, even his hate detractors feel bad for Kaz, since he lost his homeplanet, his friends, and family.
- As Star Wars Resistance was aimed in part at a younger audience, Kaz's character often embodies youthful energy, humor, and idealism. His character resonates because they see him as an underdog figure who grows into his role.
- He also continued being a true friend to Tamara Ryvora, despite their rocky start.
Why Do People Hate Him Character?[]
- Many detractors felt Kaz clumsiness is very annoying, while in Season 1 his clumsiness was due to bad timing Season 2 made his clumsiness to get others into trouble. An example is Kaz almost destroying a Sith Temple in "The Relic Raiders" is what most people remember him by and the one action that codified him as The Load in the eyes of many fans, often forgetting any of his more heroic and competent moments during the rest of the season.
- Some feel that Kaz joining the Resistance simply because Poe decided to recruit this kid he just met seems rather convenient, and that a better backstory would have been if Kaz had been kick out from the naval academy for a severe screw-up, considering his determination to prove himself despite his clumsiness is a Fatal Flaw he struggles with throughout Season 1.
- After his father revealed to be alive. many people felt it would of serve as a motivation to make Kaz's stand against the First Order more personal... until early Season 2 reveals that Kaz's family just happened to be off world at the time. This never comes up again nor is Kaz's possible personal grudge against the First Order ever really addressed again either, so this part of his character arc seems for naught.
