Kaito Momota is a major character of the Danganronpa franchise, being the deuteragonist of Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony. He is a student in the Ultimate Academy for Gifted Juveniles and a participant of the Killing School Semester. In his fictional story he became famous for becoming the first teen to ever pass the astronaut exams. Even if he never been to Space yet, this makes him got the title as the Ultimate Astronaut.
He was voiced by Ryōhei Kimura and Kyle Herbert in the English dub.

What Do People Like About Him?[]
- He is with quite a bit of distance the most supportive character of the whole Danganronpa-Franchise, believing in his friends no matter what, helped them to overcome fears or doubts in themselves and to open them.
- Only thanks to his influence Maki was able to open herself to him and Shuichi, showing more of her insecurities and she even falls in love with him.
- Shuichi was introduced by Team Danganronpa as the weakest ultimate Detective of all time, but Kaito putted his full believe in him, that strengthen him so much, that he was able to solve the difficult second case, to argument even against Kaito himself in the fourth case and his influence managed Shuichi to be a real main protagonist.
- For this his fans introduced him to a new Title: The Ultimate Bro.
- He gives quite the amount of passionate speeches about the universe or to encourage his classmates. His fans really liked his encouragement because it reaches to the group and helped them.
- He is a really good judge of character and is able to give the right advice.
- He has tons of hilarious moments and quotes, making him one of the funniest characters of the game.
- He is one of the most three-dimensional characters of the game, having personal insecurities and flaws, so he feels really good-written
- His fans liked that he almost never lost his optimism. Staying on the positive site to never let his friends down in depression.
- The fandom liked the Ship between him and Maki Harukawa, being one of the most popular ships of the game.
- His rivalry with Kokichi Oma is one of the most violent and hardest of the Danganronpa-Franchise, but also one of the most interesting relationships.
- He has some really hard quotes about Kokichi like: “I don’t want to survive if it means I have to stoop to your level." Some really felt this tense atmosphere.
- Together with Kokichi he performed one of the most complex murder cases, which not even Momokuma was able to solve. The fifth Case of Danganronpa V3 was one of the most popular.
- He sacrificed himself to save Maki from being executed for killing Kokichi.
- Also, many fans loved his execution, because it just gave Kaito the last laugh, as he was about to die anyway, Monokuma gave him the chance of his life to fly into space. So, he died with a smile on his face while Monokuma was completely angry.
- Monokuma never achieved his main goal: That Kaito felt despair. Kaito died with hope that his friends will survive and never felt any kind of despair.
- Some people called this the perfect execution.
- All in all, his fans loved him because he is the kind of friend who you need when you face tuff situations or choices. Many said that they want a best friend Kaito.
What Do People Hate About Him?[]
- His detractors deemed him annoying due to his constant optimism and believe in others even in situations which doesn’t fit.
- Especially people with trust-issues or people in bad mood have a serious problem to sympathize with him.
- A big part of his personality is recklessness. Some believe that he just pushes the others way too much and puts them all in dangerous situations.
- He has a strong believe in his own point of view, and when someone argues against it, he’ll have a hard time to accept it. His stubbornness is also one of his personality flaws that some fans criticize.
- The most infamous example for this is the fourth class trial where he stubbornly doesn’t want to believe Shuichi and most importantly Kokichi that Gonta Gokuhara is the culprit of the murder case of Miu Iruma. That results in a hard discussion with Shuichi.
- Even after everything is solved, he still has a hard time to believing it, as he couldn’t talk to Shuichi properly or to look him in the eye, until he was captured.
- Again, he has an intense rivalry with Kokichi Oma. As Kokichi is one of the most popular characters of the game, his fans obviously disliked Kaito, as he is basically the exact opposite of Kokichi.
- Some People say that they disliked his lack of an interesting backstory, as his free time events are more like an Indiana Jones story and in the end, he admits to Shuichi basically that he just wants to space, because it’s cool.
- Sometimes he appears to be incompetent and stupid, like when he doesn’t really understand the concept of love and doesn’t notice the jealousy of Maki at all. Some consider this as inconsistently writing because mostly he has a good understanding of people.
- People don’t like some old-fashioned opinions from Kaito.
- Some affected people don’t like Kaito because he deemed something like Ryoma Hoshi’s depression as cowardness.
- He tells Gonta, that true men shouldn’t apologize that much.
- In the Japanese edition he shows a little bit of homophobia in the presentence of Korekiyo Shinguji.
- He believes that weapons don’t fit to women, telling this to the girl Maki, who is the Ultimate Assassin.
- He shows some arrogance, as he deemed himself to be the hero of his own world. Constantly bragging about his nickname. While some really appreciate that he gave away some of the pressure Shuichi had on his back, some called this repetitive and too arrogant.
