Jr. Troopa is a major antagonist in Paper Mario. He is a baby Koopa who constantly tries to ambush Mario and his friends to try to defeat Mario throughout the game.

What Makes Him a Base-Breaking Character?

What Do People Like About Him?

• He provides some pretty hilarious scenes in the game, like him swimming all the way to Lavalava Island, then swimming back after discovering that Mario has left, and literally losing half of his HP as a result.
• He is a determinator who never gives up trying to defeat Mario despite constantly failing. Such determination allows him to become stronger throughout the game, and by the end of the story, he becomes strong enough to easily take out the Koopa Bros. and provide an interesting battle against Mario. Many fans admire him and like the fact that he is always able to catch up with Mario without the help of the Star Spirits or other allies.
• His motives have nothing to do with the main story where Bowser tries to take over the Mushroom Kingdom, which many people find to be refreshing, especially since almost every other antagonist in this game is working for Bowser.

What Do People Hate About Him?

• He is disliked by some for being a bratty and annoying kid, and his motivation is petty.
• He is fought for a total of six times throughout the game, and many of these battles feel repetitive with him only having one attack, making the encounters with him somewhat annoying. People feel that this is a bit too much, since he has nothing to do with the overarching plot.
• He makes his final appearance by defeating the Koopa Bros. and replacing them as the boss in Bowser's Castle. The latter's appearance is hinted soon after their defeat in Chapter 1, and is a fan favorite, but they ultimately just show up to be replaced by Jr. Troopa, who has been fought five times before. Even many fans of him agree that they don't really like this scene, and would prefer to get the rematch against Koopa Bros. instead.

Trivia

• In the NTSC-U version, during one of the battles against him, Jr. Troopa refers to himself as "Jr. Koopa".
• If the player uses Bow's Spook or a Fright Jar on him, it will trigger a special dialogue. There is also a grammar mistake in said dialogue, which was not discovered for a long time due to its obscurity.
