Henry Rutherford "Hank" Hill is the main protagonist of King of the Hill. He is a man who lives in Arlen, Texas, with his wife Peggy Hill, and son Bobby Hill and provides propane and propane accessories at his job at Strickland Propane.
People feel that his strong morals, as well as his honest, reliable traits and trying to do what he believes to be right even when facing issues make him a likeable and relatable character.
His fans like his sympathetic qualities, such as growing up with an obnoxious, misogynistic and racist father, and inability to connect with others, and feel it makes him more sympathetic and relatable.

His detractors feel that there's a large number of instances where Hank acts like a condescending and stubborn jerk and yet he's still presented as someone who's supposed to be admired, making him a Designated Hero. Fans also feel that there's times where the series pulls an Ass Pull just to keep him likable.
His detractors also feel he comes off as a controlling, whiny narcissist who tries to mold Bobby into another version of him, despite the boy's conflicting goals, and gets upset whenever it fails.
