Grogar is the overarching antagonist of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, being the unseen/posthumous overarching antagonist of the season 9.
He is the former Emperor of Equestria and the creator of all monsters in Equestria, until his defeat and banishment by Gusty the great however, his legacy endures through legends and stories that other creatures of Equestria told, being known by several (except Cozy Glow).
Although he was never seen in the series (apart from the costume that Discord uses), he is indirectly responsible for the events of season 9, with his bewitching bell being a key object for the villains to cause chaos and destruction.
He was voiced by the late Doc Harris when Discord poses as him.

What Do People Like About Him?[]
- He is the most enigmatic character in the series, which made him the subject of several theories from fans.
- His design (taking into account whether that is his actual appearance) is quite good, giving an aura of intimidation and terror to anyone around him.
- Despite never appearing on screen (beyond flashbacks, stories and the Discord costume), whenever he is talked about he gives off an enigmatic and intimidating aura which gives the impression of the type of threat he was.
- This is further shown when Discord took on the appearance of Grogar, when he first introduced himself, the other villains (except Sombra) were amazed and intimidated when they saw him, even laughing nervously at the end.
- When he tells the story of Grogar's reign, monsters are shown attacking and devouring ponies, and although it was a small scene, it tells us a lot about what the times of the ancient pre-Equestrian era were like, being quite one of the dark moments of the Show.
- His appearance also gave rise to the theory that he was the creator of Discord, since the latter seemed to know him quite well, imitating his appearance, voice and personality and taking into account that he was the creator of several monsters, it is assumed that he knew Discord.
- Taking the above into account, he could be one of the darkest villains (if not the most) of the FiM franchise, being responsible for tormenting Equestria with the creatures he created and implying that those same creatures could be responsible for causing deaths of several ponies and if he had made a real appearance, it would have improved the series quite a bit.
What Do People Hate About Him?[]
- Although the mystery surrounding him seems to be part of his character, many consider it quite bad that he is only introduced through mentions, since they would have preferred a real appearance.
- He is possibly the most wasted character in the series, even more wasted than Sombra or Storm King, being that he could have been the greatest threat that the protagonists could face, and one of the most fearsome, dark and evil villains, however, only relegated to being Discord in disguise and background character from then on.
- This plot twist that Discord was Grogar disappointed several fans, and they consider it one of the reasons why the ending wasn't so good, (aside from the fact that Discord's plan didn't make much sense either).
- This led several fans to ask for a rewrite of the ending, and even creating alternate endings where the real Grogar appears.
- Apart from all that, there are some who consider him a fairly flat and generic villain, since it is only said that he was cruel, evil and that's it.
