- Several fans appreciate that he was one of many Disney Villains that don't die, as he was actually arrested for his crimes at the end of both films.
What Do People Hate About Him?[]
- His detractors consider him to be one of the worst Disney Villains for several reasons.
- Not only he attempted to steal gold, he also went as far in attempting to shoot Chief Powhatan, only for John Smith to save his life but almost got killed by Ratcliffe that causes the settlers to betray him.
- Some detractors find him hypocritical as he thinks he's a good person and refuses to find flaws in himself, when he has no respect towards his settlers, not even John Smith.
- It does not help that he was based off of a real-life historical figure that not only didn't have a prejudice view towards Native Americans, but tried to make peace with them, only to get ambushed and tortured to death. This has made many find Disney's characterization of Ratcliffe an offensive disservice to the real Ratcliffe.
