Goh is the deuteragonist of Pokémon Journeys: The Series.
What Makes Him a Base Breaking Character?[]
What Do People Like About Him?[]
- His personality is different from other companions and he's given more focus, which for some fans was seen as a good idea.
- His goal of catching all Pokémon is considered by some as interesting and unique as it is not covered in previous Pokémon anime and it make think of rabid Pokémon collectors in the games.
- His personality gives him unique interactions with his Pokémon, especially towards his Cinderace and Inteleon as they evolved.
What Do People Hate About Him?[]
- His detractors feel that he is a character solely created for promoting Pokémon GO, and that his goal to catch all Pokémon is hollow, lacks excitement and overall unnecessary.
- Eventually sometime after his release, he would be featured in the game as a snapshot even for a surprise Scyther encounter alongside Goh’s outfit as cosmetic items on November 11, 2020.
- Another criticism of his goal is that he's getting too many Pokémon in a short time, as he's the second of all the main characters in number of Pokémon (with the first being Ash, who to get so many spent many seasons).
- While his focus is praised by his fans, it's also criticized by his detractors, who see him as a spotlight stealer. Accuse of this are due to most notable achievements and catches throughout the series (the starters, fan-favorite Pokémon species and even some legendary Pokémon) being caught by him too quickly compared to Ash and thus is considered that the season's story has too much focus on him over the protagonist Ash and especially Chloe, whose lack of screentime is often pointed out.
- A lot of his Pokémon have arcs considered underdeveloped, as he barely spends time connecting with them and they are treated as extras or props, unlike Ash's team where he brings out the merits of most of his Pokémon. This also caused his detractors to accuse him of treating his Pokémon like objects instead of friends.
- His philosophy is seen as being hypocritical, as he states that people should achieve their dreams by themselves in "That New Old Gang of Mine!" and yet wouldn't have made progress with several of his goals without having others to help him.
- While his flaws such as his impulsiveness are understandable given how young he is, they end up making him unlikeable for the detractors and he often repeats his mistakes throughout the series rather than learning from them, which only worsened that.
- Many are also annoyed or even angry that he captured all the three Galar starters, as in former seasons Ash always captures at least one of them.
