Why Do Some People Hate The Character?	She killed Sasha Braus, who was one of the most loved characters in Attack on Titan. She is hated for being an antagonist opposing the beloved and older main characters. Her arrogant, vain, overbearing, and hot-headed personality cause many to find her annoying. She is considered by many a Mary Sue, as she insanely skilled at everything she does and everyone easily likes and protects her, even her enemies. Some dislike her eagerness to kill and how she takes advantage of her enemies's compassion, as well as how mean she can get at times.
Why Do Some People Love The Character?	She is an understandable and mature character, who seeks freedom just like Eren but revolves in better ways. Her fans genuinely find her charming and cute. She is a scapegoat who has valid motivations and a tragic background. She fought to stop the Rumbling and the Yeagerists and helped saving humanity. She saved Kaya's life. Gabi Braun is a major character in the Attack on Titan. She is an Eldian girl born and raised in Marley as a young soldier devoted to her nation, who also bore nothing but disgust towards the "devils" of Paradis Island. She is a Warrior candidate to inherit the Armored Titan.

She is voiced by Ayane Sakura in Japanese, who also voiced Ochaco Uraraka in My Hero Academia, and by Lindsay Seidel in English. Both Ayane and Lindsay also voiced Fiona Frost in Spy x Family.

What Do People Like About Her?

• Her fans think she is more mature than Eren Yeager, who while Eren Yeager decides to commit genocide to end his problems, she sees that the Eldians are just as human as every other person in the world, and in the end she is able to befriend them and fight with them.
• Her defenders feel very sympathetic toward Gabi and the things she went through, and the hate the characters receives only ended up causing them to defend her more, as they accused her detractors to be hateful, immature, toxic, and over-the-top, and even hypocritial, resulting in continuous vicious internet fight between those who love Gabi and those who hate her. Rarely there is middle-ground when it comes to Gabi, as most either like her or dislike her.
• Many love her design and find her cute. Even many detractors admit she has a good-looking design, despite hating her character.
• Many fans, including detractors, think she has a good story and character arc and development.
• Fans love her cheerful, enthusiastic and loud playful side, and are protective of her because she is still a child put into a cruel war environment.
• Many love or respect her bravery, tenacity, headstrong and willful attitude, and even those who are annoyed by her respect that she gets what she wants no matter what.
• Fans and some detractors respect and approve how she willingly risked her life in place of an entire unit of soldiers, and her success in derailing the armored train ended up saving the lives of 800 soldiers and winning the war against the Mid-East Allied Forces.
• She was brainwashed into believing that all Eldians were cruel and evil people and that they were the reason why all her people in the internment zones are treated as subhuman, and she seeks freedom by "atoning" for the Eldian Empire's cruel actions against humanity, hoping to see all the Subjects of Ymir released from the internment zones and not having to wear armbands anymore.
• Because the Survey Corps destroyed her hometown Liberio and killed several of her friends, this ended up causing her to kill Lobov and Sasha, and nearly kill Jean, to avenge the deaths of her friends. This was also portrayed sympathetically by the narrative, as many innocent people died in the Liberio battle.
• Fans who love her genuinely enjoy her personality and find her cute and pleasant to see, especially those who don't mind the characters fighting for Marley and its allies. Those who enjoy the characters on the Marley side love Gabi's relationship with her friends and family, especially her relationship with Falco, Reiner, and Pieck.
• She has valid and tragic background of having being born in an internment camp with nearly the entire world hating her and the other Subjects of Ymir due to the atrocities of the Eldian Empire, she was enlisted in the military as child soldier since a very young age, had to work hard in a harsh environment, and even had to fight in a 4-year-long war.
• Her defenders also point out that her detractors are no better than her, and have behaved even worse, as they also tend to dehumanize the outside world and Marley as nothing but monsters deserving of annihilation, just like Gabi saw Paradis, disregarding their background with Eldia (it's been only a century since Eldia's fall, and all the public know is that Eldians are supposedly all pro-Rumbling). Much like Gabi did with Paradis, fans point out that her detractors are rather ignorant and close-minded when it comes to humanity outside the Walls.
• She fought in the Marley-Survey Corps alliance, helping to stop the Rumbling and the Yeagerists, ultimately saving humanity before total annihilation. Her fans loved that she continued to willingly put herself in danger to stop the Rumbling, even after Liberio was destroyed, all while she believed all her loved ones who were there were dead, making her selfless and heroic.
• She saves Kaya's life by single-handedly taking on Nile's Pure Titan and killing him, risking her own life for Kaya, despite the fact that the latter hated her and wanted her dead. Many fans praised her for this and sometimes attack detractors for disregarding this.
• She has valid motivations for the things she does and fights for the people she loves just like the rest of the cast, and her actions, such as being angry and retalitating for the raid on Liberio and decapitating Eren, whom she knows to be a global-level threat.
• Some defend her violent behavior as justified, as she repeatedly saw people she cared about dying left and right in major battles against her enemies. In particular, the raid on Liberio initially only proved her beliefs and accusations correct in her perspective.
  • Many feel sorry for the fact she had to live her childhood like an adult and the losses she suffered, as she had to see Zofia, Udo, two friend soldiers, Colt, Galliard, and General Magath die. Before the ending, they felt sorry for her as she was also close to lose her whole family and every single citizen from Liberio that she knew, and was also going to lose Reiner, Falco, and Pieck due to the Curse of Ymir, but thanks to the final battle and the Rumbling stopping, none of these additional losses happened.
• Many love and enjoy her relationship with Falco, and even some who hate her are happy for Falco.
  • Despite her acting Tsundere toward Falco's affection, she deeply cares about him and she is even confronted about it by Niccolo, who compares her affection to him with his own love for Sasha. Despite Falco being in proximity of Zeke's scream, Gabi risks her own life by calling for Falco to hop on her stolen horse and ride with her outside the Walls in an attempt to flee from Zeke.
    • During the beginning of the Rumbling, she maintains a level-head and seeks her own enemies out to find Falco and rescue him from Connie. And at the port of Paradis, when Falco runs on his own to transform into a Titan for the first time, Gabi instinctively almost runs with him, only for Pieck to stop her.
• Her fans also enjoy how insanely skilled and cunning she is, despite her young age.
• She is actually friendly and cares deeply about her friends and loved ones, and she is willing to die for them.
• She stop Floch from destroying the Azumabito boat by shooting him. In the manga, she and Magath also shoot at least 3 other Yeagerists who attempted to do the same before Floch, although the anime didn't show this part and Gabi being put in charge of the ship during the fight.
• She helps Mikasa to save Armin by sniping the Okapi Titan.
• She helps humanity post-Rumbling, participating in work to heal the environment and helping refugess who lost their homes.
• She takes good care of the disabled Levi and became close with him, sitting with him and listening to his stories.

What Do People Hate About Her?

• Even though her infamous act where she kills Sasha Blaus, one of the the most beloved characters in the franchise, led to an intended reaction where the hate got so bad that Gabi's Japanese voice actor, Ayane Sakura, was harassed and received death threats whereas the English voice actor, Lindsay Seidel, was harassed, detractors were wary about the inconsistency of her motive behind doing so, with her motive initially being to defend herself, but changed later to revenge alone in one jarring twist, by having her brag about killing Sasha to Niccolo, and calling Sasha a manipulating devil-woman in front of her parents and family.
• Some of her detractors think she is a hypocrite, as she fought in battles in support of Marley's imperialism, in which people of enemy countries lost heir homes. On the battlefield, Gabi has a carefree attitude and she even stated she killed a large amount of people for the sole purpose of earning praise. The details of her feats in war were never explored in details, although according to Falco they were impressive.
• Her detractors hate her for being her unforgiving animosity against the side they supported since the beginning.
• A common misconception among the fanbase is that she was "meant to be hated" by the mangaka who created the series, in spite of her collective hate and dehumanization of her enemies being seen as unjustified by the narrative. This is incorrect, however, as none of the Warriors and their friends was ever written simply to be despised. In fact, Gabi was always treated with sympathy by the narrative since the beginning.
• Some find her arrogant, brash, vain, overbearing, and hot-headed personality, as well as her bragging annoying, accusing her of having a big ego and being bratty, and they are upset at how most times she can back her claims up with her skills. They also hate how rude she can get, even disliking how she behaved as a guest of Sasha's family.
• Some think she has a very authoritarian and arrogant personality, and almost always puts her friends down by acting condescendingly or controlling, in addition to inadvertently putting them in danger, like Falco who ended up accidentally receiving wine spiked with Zeke's spinal fluid, when Nicolo hit attempted to hit Gabi with a bottle, and even making Falco go after her (when she was going to board the enemy's airship) and making both of them get beaten with the Survey Corps after she killed Sasha.
  • This is why her detractors dislike her romance with Falco, mainly from how physically aggressive she can get against him.
• Some dislike how she is constantly screaming and how angry and hateful she can get, and how easily violent and bad tempered she gets when angered. She can assault others, including her friends, and when she is arguing against perceived enemies she can even attempt to kill them, mainly out of paranoia, showing how used she is to commit murder.
  • Some fans found the brutal way she mercilessly beat her jailguard to death with a brick to be disturbing and unnecessary.
• Some also found her brainwashed beliefs to be frustrating and couldn't help but to despise her for it, although she was just the product of her environment.
• Her detractors consider her a Mary Sue, having been outright stated in the manga to be a child prodigy who's good at everything she tries, being shown to be very strong, cunning and agile for her age, as well as being able to quickly use ODM gear with little difficulty, effortlessly learn horseriding in a short amount of time, crafting her own explosives, and using a new heavy anti-Titan shooter effortlessly, despite adult soldiers struggling and failing to do so (an entire Marleyan contingent equipped with these weapons gets wiped out by Titans, while she survives and successfully uses the new model multiple times with little issues). She is also physically stronger than other children and jumps mid-air carrying weapons heavier than her own body. While teenagers and grown adults struggle to fight Titans and brutally die in the process, Gabi kills and shoots Titans without issues.
  • Detractors also hate how powerful she is with firearms and her incredible marksmanship, being a successful sniper who is always at the right time and place to shoot her enemies down.
  • Everyone is also quickly charmed by her and they easily like her and treat her greatly, even her enemies. Marleyan officials with prejudice are also sweeter to her, to the point she is comfortable with disobeying their orders. Even her superior Magath, who is normally reserved with his relationship with the Warriors, hugs her in front of other Marleyan soldiers.
    • Fans of Sasha also hate how Sasha's whole family ended up being too clement to Gabi, with Kaya and Lisa Braus even hugging her, although the former tried to stab Gabi with her guard down only for Mikasa to stop her from doing so.
  • Her detractors also dislike how she was able to single-handedly take the job meant for a 800 soldiers unit, and destroyed the armored train and wiped out all the soldiers and defenses within the train and bunker all on her own. And then survived the entire suicide mission after avoiding machine gunfire.
    • Some even dislike the fact that she was praised as a hero for this feat, which was noted in the story to be a war crime, as she posed as a civilian to carry this mission out.
• Some dislike the way she is so enthusiastically eager to kill and takes advantage of her enemies's compassion by acting like a helpless and weak little girl, only to kill them, and later also bragging about it. Some fans even call her a sadist.
• Her detractors disliked how little empathy she had for her enemies from other countries in general and how she initially showed no empathy for Kaya, although in Kaya's case Gabi lamented how Eldians destroyed her hometown and couldn't bring herself to sympathize with them.
• Some find her English dub voice to be grating or an unsuccessful attempt to imitate Ayane Sakura's tone of voice, and viewers who only watched the English dub of the anime admitted they have only a problem with how her voice sounds. This is only exclusive to the English version, not the Japanese dub.
