What Makes Him a Base Breaking Character?[]
What Do People Like About Him?[]
- He is a refreshing new take on the Resident Evil.
- Unlike every other protagonist in the franchise, who is a super-soldier, a spy, or mercenary et, Ethan is just a regular citizen (albeit with some military training by the time village comes around.
- He is arguably the most relatable character in the series, being a regular guy not looking to save the world as a whole, just looking to save his family.
- Despite being injured a lot sometimes fatally, he never suspects anything about him being an inhuman creature.
- The moment he gets an email from "Mia" his wife who was presumed deceased for 3 years, he drops everything to go get her in a house in Louisiana,
- Makes it his mission to save Mia from the Baker residence.
- Unlike many other protagonists in the franchise who go on to be soldiers or mercenaries, Ethan decides to lay low and start over under BSAA witness protection, and having a daughter named Rose with Mia,
- When he wakes up in a car crash he makes it his mission to save his daughter Rose.
- Kills everything in his way from the regular lycans, moroaicas and soldats, to the formidable four lords.
- Refuses Karl Heisenberg's offer to help take down mother miranda by using Baby Rose as a weapon to defeat her, knowing Heisenberg played a role in separating his daughter into pieces in the first place, Heisenberg gives Ethan another chance before pushing him into a hole with his executioner sturm, but Ethan refuses and even dares Heisenberg to do it,
- Flat out, says no to death, until he saves Rose after Miranda rips his heart out, and finding out his true molded nature.
- Despite his body on the brink of death, made it to Mother Miranda and having the strangest custody battle, finally takes her down and saves Rose, with the price of Ethan finally calcifying,
- He sacrificed himself to save his daughter Rose, Chris Redfield and his squad and Mia, by blowing himself up and Miranda again who fused with the megamycete,
- Todd Soley's voice performance is improved in RE Village.
What Do People Dislike About Him?[]
- He was considered bland and flat in Re7, in English localization at least. His Japanese VA is more emotional.
- He makes a lot of stupid decisions, for instance going to Dulvey, Louisiana after getting an email from his "deceased" wife out of nowhere to come get her without talking to the police first, asking a cop for his gun to protect himself. not leaving after Salvatore Moreau catches him with his flask.
- Some fans hate that Ethan refuses Karl Heisenberg's offer to help take down Mother Miranda by using Baby Rose as a weapon to defeat her, for those who are rooting for him.
- Though in his defense, he protests against Heisenberg's idea to use Rose as a vessel to create Heisenberg's implied upcoming creation. Maybe this is a case of dumbass has a point.
- His face is always hidden no matter what, it wasn't that bad in RE7 but it felt forced in Village with mirrors being blocked and his face is obscured a lot during his final moments, it gets even worse in the DLC, Shadows of Rose, where it would be his final ever moment in the series but still hide his face,
