Eren Yeager is the main protagonist of the Attack on Titan franchise.

What Makes Him a Base Breaking Character?[]

What Do People Like About Him?[]

  • He's a well written protagonist, his change and internal conflicts in the 4th season fascinated the audience and increased his popularity.
  • Eren is a very tragic character, especially since he saw his own mother die right in front of him. Fans completely understand his motivations and feelings based on the situation he had to deal with.
  • He is shown to be very badass and cool moments in the series, especially later on in the series.

What Do People Hate About Him?[]

  • He is perceived as a stereotypical edgelord who use his tragic past as excuse for being evil. Even if his crimes are way too horrible for forgiveness, he has many fanboys and fangirls who love him because he's a combination of being tragic and being edgy, which annoys other parts of the AOT fanbase.
  • His detractors don't like him turning into a villain during his later appearances and his killing 80% of humanity in the Rumbling and deny his chance of redemption in a strategic sense, but he showed a psychopathic indifference in the choice.
    • Similarly, his death was treated as tragic and sympathetic, even though he killed billions.
  • In the beginning of the series, he was more hotheaded and more on an annoying brat. He wasn't necessarily relatable in the beginning of the series.
    • Even before the timeskip, detractors considered him a one dimensional character that was angry too often. The same detractors hated how he criticized the deaths caused by Reiner and Bertholdt, where he ranted that they killed countless innocents who did nothing wrong, without considering the fact he recently did the same in his fight against Annie at Stohess District.
