Dolores Umbridge is one of the main antagonists of the Harry Potter franchise. Making her debut in The Order of the Phoenix, the fifth entry of the franchise, Umbridge seeks to gain control of Hogwarts no matter the cost.
She was portrayed by Imelda Staunton in the films, and was voiced by Jim Dale in the audiobooks.

- Her fans felt that Umbridge's appearance as a somewhat kind looking grandmother figure does a great job at hiding how sadistic and evil she really is.
- Many fans weren't happy that Staunton didn't receive an accolades for her performance as Umbridge and felt that she deserved better.
What Do People Hate About Her?[]
- Many of Umbridge's detractors felt that, in the long term, that Umbridge's character wasn't necessary other than to place another obstacle in the way of the conflict with Voldemort.
- For those who were only interested in Harry's conflict with Voldemort, Umbridge's character felt like an unnecessary detour in the development of that conflict.
- Another criticism raised about Umbridge by her detractors is that she serves no purpose other than to be a one-dimensional strawman of corrupt authority figures who do anything to make the world around them as miserable as possible in an attempt to garner power.
- Additionally, her exaggeratedly feminine persona, which is intended to be disgusting to the reader, has been criticized as misogynistic, which has some reality subtext as J.K. Rowling admitted to basing her on a teacher who she hated for the same reason.
