~ Gabe

Gabe is an anti-villain in the first two seasons of Locke & Key and an antihero in the third.

What Makes Her a Base Breaking Character?[]

What Do People Like About Her?[]

  • Even as an angry 6-foot goth chick, Gabe is extremely charming, magnetic, and intriguing, often being a Grade-A scene stealer.
  • She loves Kinsey Locke and while a lot of viewers understandably had their doubts, this is proven to be genuine. She's a demoness who came from a world full of chaos and destruction, and never knew anything related to love, but when she started dating Kinsey she sincerely fell for her. Her plans would've ended up very differently if she hadn't really loved her. Her love blinded her, and Eden repeatedly called her out on it. Gabe's almost whole arc in the second season was trying to protect Kinsey and wanting her to join her side. And while she does try to kill her once, not only does she take no pleasure from it at all, but it's solely because she and the others were attacking her and hurting the other demons and therefore, out of self-defense. And while she's shown some concerning signs of limerence, she still is sincere when she says she loves Kinsey.
  • She was nice to Bode and Tyler at first, even giving Bode a teddy bear and inviting Tyler in her truck to grope her, but when he set up a bear trap to hurt her and he took the Anywhere Key from her pocket, this burned bridges that were never repaired and to be completely honest, these bridges probably should not have been mended anyway. Her being nice to Bode was the only way to get her out of the well house, but this does not necessarily prove she would have been a jerk to him if they had met under different circumstances since the two literally play together at the beginning of the second season.
  • Gabe really doesn't hate anybody, except for Frederick Gideon, as she's shown to be extremely forgiving in general. Even after surmising that Tyler killed her variant and hearing him threaten to lock her in the Harlequin Chest, she still helps him with a smile.
  • She was also nice to Bernadette (as the Well Lady), even telling her she was gorgeous.
  • She is extremely intelligent and clever.
  • She does a great job playing Nephrophidae in The Splattering.
  • Upon learning of Frederick Gideon's conquest, she refuses to help him kill innocent people and refuses his gesture for power over the cosmos without any hesitation whatsoever and instead she seeks out the Harlequin Key and warns the Lockes of his existence so they can all fight him.
  • While her gender situation can be more than a little confusing at times (Word of God indicates her as a female demon in a male host body), her strength and fortitude challenges stereotypical depictions of womanhood.
  • Gabe is a lesbian magnet out-of-universe, as a lot of girls find her to be extremely desirable. As the "Well Lady", she unintentionally attracts a lot of male attention in-universe; this includes Javi and Brinker of all people and even Scot thinks she's lovely when Ellie's forced to look like her. She's voted as the second-most attractive female character (besides Kinsey Locke) on a Facebook poll as well as one on the Locke & Key Wiki (albeit under the name "Dodge"), while Gabe is voted as the utmost attractive "male" character which says a lot about how fancied Gabe really is.
  • Griffin Gluck did a phenomenal job with Gabe. Felix Mallard, Laysla De Oliveira, and Jackson Robert Scott also showed talent in portraying her.

What Do People Hate About Her?[]

  • She's often criticized for the way she treats other people and for apparently having a personality that makes viewers uncomfortable. The gal literally threatens to kill Nina Locke just for being Kinsey's mother (obsessive much?) which says a lot about how naive and callous she can be.
  • Her obsession with revenge can get way too over-the-top as she endangered kids several times to get even with Ellie in the first season. She also threatened to snap Rufus' neck and broke one of his toys just for the sake of doing so.
  • She alienates Bode by lying to him for the Anywhere Key (although to be completely fair, Uncle Duncan said there was tetanus in the well house). With this being said, several nice things she does are questionable, as playing with Bode got her to Chamberlin Locke and she stayed behind to help Doug clean up so she could antagonize him about the keys, even though she appears to like both of them, which sets some people on edge and rightfully so.
  • She chokes a French guy until he passes out, kills a kid with a train, and fatally suffocates one of Tyler's teachers (talk about overkill).
  • She can be a huge jerk to Eden even when she's not doing anything wrong.
  • She tends to try to be funny at some really inappropriate times.

Trivia[]

  • Since the showrunners always use female pronouns for Gabe, they are hence used in the article.
