Discord is a major character in My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. He is the nigh-omnipotent spirit of chaos and disharmony who once desired to turn all of Equestria into a chaotic wasteland without rules or logic.
However, thanks to the help of the Mane Six (especially Fluttershy), he was able to redeem himself, however, he remains somewhat chaotic and mischievous to his friends.
He was voiced by John de Lancie.
What Makes Him a Base Breaking Character?[]
What Do People Like About Him?[]
- He is a pretty funny character, even when he was a villain, he had a certain charisma, and after his redemption these qualities increased even more.
- He was such a popular character that there is even a song about him in The Living Tombstone, this song is still used in various edits.
- Many liked that he was redeemed some time later, since this would make him a more recurring character and would give rise to several fun plots.
- Most fans consider that the best part of his character is his relationship with Fluttershy, the fact that technically it is thanks to her that he redeems himself, and from there there are several tender moments, which has led the fandom to ship them.
- Despite his attitude, it has been shown that he can really be a good friend, as shown with Spike and Big Mac, in the episode of Dungeons and Discords or the multiple times he hangs out with Fluttershy.
- He has a unique and pretty cool design, being basically the "lord of chaos" it is quite fitting for him to be an amalgamation of different creatures, and that has also led to the belief that he is basically all the problems of season 1 in one being.
- Many were happy to see him again in the g5 comics, and were very moved to see a certain final panel of him and Fluttershy.
- Overall he is a charming and charismatic character, both before and after his redemption who quickly became a favorite of many in the brony fandom.
What Do People Hate About Him?[]
- Many consider that redeeming him was a mistake, since he looked better as a villain since he was basically an ancient evil from several millennia ago, they consider that his redemption was hasty and forced.
- His detractors believe that, being the most powerful character in the series, he could end all the conflicts in subsequent seasons if it were not for the script and the fact that he does not take the problems seriously at all.
- In season 4, when Celestia asked him to take care of Tirek, the latter manages to trick him and get him to help him in his goals, going so far as to betray his friends. Many consider this a great setback in his character and redemption, since in his first appearance he proved to be quite intelligent and yet he allows himself to be fooled or tired.
- In season 6, the writers seem aware of Discord's power, so they took the anti-magic stone out of nowhere so that Discord wouldn't solve the problem with his power, although it is understandable that they want to antagonize Chrysalis and the changelings. and prominence to Starlight, Trixie, Thorax and Discord himself, the truth is that once again the excuse of the throne feels quite forced.
- Already for season 7, the movie and season 8, he doesn't even appear in the season finales or the movie, this gets worse if we consider that The Pony of Shadows (antagonist of season 7) wanted to plunge Equestria into darkness probably ending everyone, The Storm King and Tempest Shadow attacked Canterlot, and put several ponies in danger and captivity and the Storm King himself was a rather malevolent guy, for some reason Discord did not appear (only with a balloon cameo but apart from that's nothing), to solve it, and there was not much excuse not to help, since by then he had already completely redeemed himself, and he showed himself willing to help against Chrysalis in season 6 as soon as they mentioned Fluttershy's name.
- In season 8, he only appears to annoy the students and Starlight, however when it comes to Cozy Glow who tried to eliminate all magic in Equestria, he again did not show up to help, and this time again there were no excuses for him not to. help since Fluttershy was locked up with her friends, so yes or yes it would have helped, and secondly this also threatened him, since Cozy was literally wiping out all magic, probably including his own.
- If it can be understood, since seasons 7 and 8 and the movie were focused on the pillars, the outer lands of Equestria and the students, at least they would have invented a small reason why Discord didn't help.
- In season 9 this gets worse, when he disguises himself as Grogar and gathers all the previous surviving villains, to in his own words "help" Twilight gain confidence for her kingdom, this plan is quite ridiculous especially (compared to something like Zhongli's plan to prepare for his retirement by aiding Tartaglia in his attack on Liyue Harbor, which was helped by the fact that Zhongli knows that Liyue would be devastated so he would try to shaft away the blame from himself) and with many failures, since the four villains managed to almost win, one of them destroyed the tree of harmony and three of them took away his powers and almost led Equestria to devastation by the wendigos, all this makes him again look like a fool who does not think about the consequences of his actions.
- Many consider him quite annoying after his redemption, appearing most of the time to annoy and mock others, although this also amuses some.
- In G5, many hated that he was only given a participation in the comics, and that he was also about to ruin the legacy of the Mane 6 by separating the crystals so that there was no magic.
