Cid Kagenou (シド・カゲノー, Shido Kagenō), formerly known as Minoru Kagenou (影野実, Kageno Minoru), is the main protagonist of The Eminence in Shadow. He often goes by his code name: Shadow.
He is voiced by Adam Gibbs in English dub, and Seichirou Yamashita in Japanese dub.

- Aside from being selfish, he can be stupid at times, since he's a chuunibyou.
- His "Asexuality" became the topic of debate. Because Cid doesn't seem interested in romantic relationship despite having a brigade of Female Assassins. This also makes Cid a Celibate Gary-Sue hero.
- Western Audience thinks he looks like he came off as a shōnen villain protagonist in a light novel while his previous incarnation says he's a LN Hero who wants to be edgy 8th grader.
