Her identity being Queen Nerissa is poorly foreshadowed that fandom founds that "Queen Nerissa" and Chelsea being one and the same made the wasted potential of a greater scope villainness named Queen Nerissa, and many fans choose to ignore it.

Also, Grandmamah prejudiced views towards mermaids initially going to be between a black and white morality, until Queen Nerissa/Chelsea betrays Ruby in the narrative, making Chelsea a predictable twist villainness.

Nerissa (also known by her alias Chelsea Van Der Zee) is the main antagonist of Dreamworks Animation's 44th full-length animated feature film Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken.

She is the newest and most popular student at Oceanside High School and the former best friend and arch-nemesis of Ruby Gillman as well as the Gillman family. Chelsea also manipulates Ruby into giving her a mythical trident, which she plans to use to increase her power, avenge her kind and kill all the krakens.

She was voiced by Annie Murphy.

Chelsea, at first, is an evil expy of Ariel from Disney's The Little Mermaid being a satirical character for people who goes against Disney's decision.
- People also joked that Chelsea is the same mermaid from Shrek 2, which Fiona thrown her into a pool of sharks after kissing an unknowing Shrek.
Many love her attractive design.
The final climactic battle with Ruby's family in a giant monster vs giant monster fashion.

What Do People Hate About Her?[]

As Grandmamah stated to Ruby, her prejudiced view on the Mermaids is initially going to be written as morally gray in the narrative. Then Chelsea, known as Queen Nerissa herself, betrays Ruby after gaining the Trident in the narrative. Making Chelsea a predictable twist villainess as Grandmama's views were proven right in the narrative.
- It's worse when all the promotion trailers already spoiled the twist making it more predictable then it has to be.
- Her detractors also don’t like Grandmama’s prejudices on mermaids being true, thinking it’s stereotypical having the traditionally good-looking mermaid as a vain villainess and the more monstrous kraken as the misunderstood innocent victims.
- Others argue that it promotes hateful and even racist morals about listening to racist or anti-lgbt family members and shunning those who are different from you.
Chelsea's identity being Queen Nerissa is viewed by the Fanbase with complete ignorance because it wastes potential for Chelsea being a mermaid daughter to an unseen Greater Scope Villainess. In which, the Fanbase considered her as a letdown after the success of DreamWorks's previous film, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.
