Brian Griffin just found out that this page Ch'rell has failed to be a bestseller for his writing career. In order to help this problem, this page should be rewritten!
IT MUST BE REWRITTEN OR ADDED TO!!

You speak my name, but you do not know me! I am Ch'rell, Oroku Saki, Duke Acureds, the one, true Shredder! I am a destroyer of worlds, and I fear no-one!
~ Ch'rell to the Mirage Turtles.
None of you will leave here alive!
~ Ch'rell's most famous quote.
For those of you still living under the illusion that you will have freedom, know this: My armies have exterminated the last pockets of resistance and I now control the entire planet. The traitorous Utrom scientists I have captured are completing a colossal transmat device. With it, I will send forth my armies and enslave the stars, one world after another. There is no hope. There is only the Shredder.
~ Ch'rell's voice-over introduction in "Same As It Never Was"
Exterminating you two traitors will be an added bonus to today's great victory!
~ Ch'rell before killing both Hun and Stockman.

Ch'rell, also known as the Utrom Shredder, is the main antagonist of the 2003 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon series.

As Oroku Saki, he is a billionaire philanthropist but uses this image as a front for his criminal empire. He is an evil Utrom who causes destruction throughout the universe to make himself powerful, making him the most dangerous criminal of the universe. He is the ruthless leader of the Foot Clan. The Utrom Shredder is also the archenemy of Mortu, the Utroms, the Turtles and their master and father, Splinter.

He was voiced by Scottie Ray, who also voices the different version of the Shredders; Tengu Shredder and Cyber Shredder.

What Makes Him a Base Breaking Character?[]

What Do People Like About Him?[]

  • He is the most well-known and beloved version of Shredder by most TMNT fans and casual viewers for his coolness, intimidation, and his representation of what a villain should be.
  • The now legendary voice of Scottie Ray gave this version of Shredder an extraordinary evil charisma with his voice and villainous laugh, so much so that Tengu and Cyber Shredder were also voiced by Scotty Ray with the same enthusiasm. There are even entire videos on YouTube dedicated to Shredder's laugh and his phrases.
  • He has a ton of "Evil is Cool" moments, whether it's going into flames, showing off his fighting skills, appearing with his theme, or the moment where he nearly destroyed the multiverse while laughing like crazy.
  • He has an iconic theme where he or his stand-ins Tengu and Cyber Shredder make appearances that shows him as a terrifying and very serious threat to the heroes, as well as adding a cool factor to him.
  • He is shown as a truly terrifying threat to the heroes, taking him so seriously that he doesn't even have a single "Laughbaly Evil" moment and overall lacks any comedic moments, demonstrating a complete cold-bloodedness and ruthlessness that would make other Pure Evil villains like Scar or Junko Enoshima seem like "mischievous" villains, as they have comedic moments, albeit completely insignificant ones.
  • The design of Shredder's exosuit in this version is considered the most epic and cool of all the other versions, as well as the most memorable.
  • There is a moment in Season 3 where Ch'rell, when he is planning to leave Earth, comforts Karai, who is sad about being alone on Earth without her loved one. While such comfort is rather selfish, as Ch'rell hopes that if he returns to Earth, his clan will be fine with his daughter and Karai will continue to serve him, such a moment of comfort, where he gives his entire inheritance to Karai, hoping that she will take it well, made it somewhat difficult, as such moments for Ch'rell were quite rare.
  • His appearance in the iconic "Same As It Never Was" entrance is considered the darkest, which is not surprising, because the episode itself is incredibly dark out of all the other episodes in the series. The episode showed how Ch'rell has taken over the Earth and now plans to take over the stars with a tyrannical hand. All this showed prompted Donatello and his brothers to do everything to stop Ch'rell, even if it costs them their lives. Also in this episode, Ch'rell had a new terrifying exosuit and a very brutal death.
  • He is very cunning as he was able to create a great Foot Clan since Feudal Japan by upgrading his exosuit and creating the Tengu Sword, a powerful energy weapon that only he can resist, and for many years he was able to maintain his authority, becoming a billionaire with a huge army of followers. Also, after the Triceraton invasion, he was cunning enough to disguise himself as a caring philanthropist to gain the respect of the citizens and a lot of financial support.

What Do People Hate About Him?[]

  • There are two main reasons why some people don't like him:
    • He is basically a cliched Pure Evil villain, which is ironic considering he has this status, lacking any complexity as a person, has no redeeming qualities, constantly laughs in a cliched way, is incredibly evil, has no real background behind him, and we know little about why he started committing atrocities and became evil. This doesn't sit well with people, as they immediately read that he is an empty villain, made to be a representative of Absolute Evil and that's it. This makes him extremely boring to some people, especially compared to other more complex and interesting villains, which makes his cliche even worse.
    • The plot twist of him being an Utrom was very much disliked by many, as it made the character less scary for many, when they found out that he was actually very pathetic without his exosuit, and many thought it would have been better if he had stayed human, or been a zombie, a supernatural being, or even the Tengu Shredder himself, but a more balanced demon. In short, for many, it was better than what the creators did.
      • This also makes him even more cliched as he is the typical evil terrorist invader from outer space, which can be considered very overused.
  • Sometimes he acts somewhat incompetently, because instead of dealing with his enemies himself, which he can do, due to his inflated ego, he demands that his subordinates do it, which almost always fails with this order and after that he also gets furious and starts to destroy everything, which makes him somewhat stupid.
  • While many people like his evil laugh, many also feel that it is overdone, such as when Shredder arrives at the port or breaks a table with the Tekko-Kagi.
  • He has no reason at all for his lust for power and revenge against the Utroms, as it is never explained to us why he wants to gain more power, take revenge on the Utroms, or kill others. While many speculate that it is because of his paranoia that the enemy could be anywhere, and hence his hatred for his own race due to their helplessness, this is only speculation and there is no real evidence for this, and revenge against the Utroms for imprisoning him is too shallow an excuse for such cruel actions.
  • As you can imagine, some people have a lot of hatred towards him, considering he is responsible for almost everything bad that has happened in the series and how immoral and cruel his actions are, showing no remorse and even showing a chilling dignity for it. In particular, some of the hatred comes from what he did to Baxter Stockman, as many believe that even with Stockman's narcissism, he did not deserve such cruel punishments and a fate worse than death, which Ch'rell did intentionally to mock him as a toy, and people felt sympathy for Baxter, while Shredder was hated for the state he drove Stockman to.

Trivia[]

  • So far, Ch'rell, the 1990 live action, and the 2012 3dcg cartoon version of Oroku Saki were the known iterations of The Shredder who were base breaking characters in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
