Characters who are held hostage by villains or are in dangerous situations that they cannot escape on their own. These characters need heroes or villains to rescue them out of the situation. This can cause character to hated by detractors or for gender-biased reasons due to repeated rescues from other characters or their own incompetence to help themselves.
