Sometimes, a minor character may be so popular with audiences that they get promoted up a peg much later in the series or franchise. Characters can be promoted to the point they change the direction or production of the franchise. However, once they become so engrained into the franchise, they run a huge risk of becoming base breaking, most commonly due to overexposure.
